Hi

I was playing this F2P-Game "Armored Warfare" (similar to "World of tanks"): https://aw.my.com/de
Then the game freezed and after some seconds i saw a BSOD ("DCP-watchdog-violation").
About 5 weeks ago I also had a crash: a "black-screen" (and then automatic reboot) while i was playing
this game. I guess a black-screen is the same as a BSOD....?
I must say the game was crashing quite often: i often had to kill the process because the game freezed.
Other games were running quite OK on this laptop

Informations i have:

*) All screenshots/LOGs are in german language so i hope it will not be too difficult to find the solution.
*) Laptop: msi-GT72-2QD (GTX970M, i7-5700), w8.1 preinstalled
*) Files, directorys:
---> A) MEMORY.DMP (saved directly after the BSOD)
---> B) C:\Windows\minidump (i also saved this directory directly after the BSOD, it contains 3 files)

*) event-IDs/LOGs (see "HIDDEN" text below)
---> A) <EventID Qualifiers="16384">1001</EventID>
---> B) < EventID Qualifiers="32768">6008</EventID>
---> C) <EventID>41</EventID>

I guess you need all (?) dump files. If yes i will upload all files to dropbox.
Or should i run Your diagnostic tools first:

https://www.sysnative.com/forums/bs...ng-instructions-windows-10-8-1-8-7-vista.html )

Or just tell me which files/informations you need.

thx a lot!

Hi. . .

Please run - https://www.sysnative.com/forums/bs...ng-instructions-windows-10-8-1-8-7-vista.html

The app in step #1 will pick up all of your mini kernel dumps located in c:\windows\minidump and generate ~20+ other system related files -- including 50,000 records from both the System and Application Event Viewer logs.

After posting and attaching the output zip file, run Driver Verifier - https://www.sysnative.com/forums/bs...er-bsod-related-windows-10-8-1-8-7-vista.html

Regards. . .

jcgriff2

EDIT: No need for Dropbox as the resulting zip file should be under our 7.15 MB zip file attachment limit. Simply attach the zip file(s) to your next post.

I guess a black-screen is the same as a BSOD....?

No - a black screen event is not necessarily a BSOD. Black screen is typically suggestive of a problem with video hardware or other unknown hardware failure.

Hi

Thanks a lot for your help! I followed Your instructions, but i think something went wrong.

I downloaded and started the tool "SysnativeBSODCollectionApp.exe" (in the documents
folder "C:\Users\NRG1\Documents" ). And then (i think) something went wrong: see screenshot "screen_A.jpg"
So i closed the tool and deleted the created folder "SysnativeFileCollectionApp".
After reboot i ran the tool again but there was the same problem: "screen_B.jpg"
Then i closed the tool (after 3 Minutes) and zipped the created second output-folder
with the tool "7zip". This zip-file is attached.

After the file was zipped i restarted the Laptop and tried to run "perfmon /report"
But there was a problem again: see screenshot "rejected.jpg"

Here is the translation of the screenshot "rejected.jpg":
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ERROR

Error generating the report

The request was rejected by the operator or administrator.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

EDIT:
after this POST i should start the Driver Verifier. When i start the driver
verifier (the tool should run 24 hours): do i have to run/start/use any software
from time to time an the laptop to get a result? Or can i leave the laptop "alone" (idle)
for the most of the time ?

Here are the answers:

Hi. . .

No, you did fine. If there are an extraordinary number of WERCON (Windows Error Reporting) entries, msinfo32 will take a very long time to complete. It is Windows' own msinfo32.exe that is giving off the status messages "waiting for systeminfo".

Kill the app if not already done; zip up the entire folder - SysnativeFileCollectionApp that is located in \Documents; attach to your next post.

There should be enough files in there to get us started.

My apologies for the trouble you encountered.

Regards. . .

jcgriff2

EDIT: Don't worry about the PERFMON Health Report.

Hi jcgriff2 !

Hi. . .

It is Windows' own msinfo32.exe that is giving off the status messages "waiting for systeminfo".

Kill the app if not already done.

"Kill the app...", did you mean:

A) kill the process/App in the Task-Manager (before or while running "SysnativeBSODCollectionApp.exe") ?
or
B) delete the App (msinfo32.exe) from the disk before starting "SysnativeBSODCollectionApp.exe" ?

Today i tried again to get the informations You need. Here are my steps:

1) Before running the "SysnativeBSODCollectionApp.exe" I searched for "msinfo32.exe" on my disk and i found several files in several directories: see screenshot "msinfo32_files.jpg".
Which file should i delete from disk next time?

2) Then I started again the tool "SysnativeBSODCollectionApp.exe" and i was trying to find the process/app "msinfo32.exe" in the W8-Task-Manager
and end/kill the process: but i coudnt find this App in the task-lists...

3) the "SysnativeBSODCollectionApp.exe" was running about 60 Minutes (yes: 1 hour). The tool collected at the beginning some informations
and after some time i only could see "waiting for systeminfo". So i closed the tool after 1 hour and saved/zipped again the output-folder (this time it is a little bigger):
its attached to the post ....maybe its helpful...

See yahh soon and thanks for your help!

PS.
i got a cold so im writing this post at 5.00 AM. Was sleeping the whole day... ;) See yahh guys...!

Hi. . .

Yes - use Task Manager or SysInternals Process Explorer (from Microsoft TechNet) to kill "SysnativeBSODCollectionApp.exe" after 10 minutes of execution (the CMD screen should be displaying "waiting for systeminfo" at this point). There should be enough files in the directory to get us started, including dump files.

Then go to Documents folder & zip up the entire SysnativeFileCollectionApp folder; create a new post & attach the zipped zip file.

If using Process Explorer, be sure to run procexp.exe "as Administrator" (RIGHT-click on procexp.exe; select "Run as Admin").

Hello,

Unless I'm mistaken, it looks like your video drivers haven't been updated since some time around April. The reason I bring this up is your latest minidump is referencing nvlddmkm.sys, an NVidia video driver.
Code:

If so, please try updating to the latest version. It looks like you currently have English video drivers, but I'll provide you the links for both the English (US) and Deutsch versions. Testing it will be as simple as updating to the latest version and playing Armored Warfare.

After updating the driver to the latest version: do i have to wait for the next "BSOD"/"black screen reboot"?
This BSOD happened after about 4 months after installing "Armored Warfare" and playing nearly every day.

see yaahh !

Yes, if you get another blue screen you should get a new minidump file. At that point, please re-run the Sysnative File Collection App and upload it here. Being a massively multiplayer game, I'd assume Armored Warfare is updated with relative frequency, so it's possible a change they made to their game started causing the crashes for you.

OK, i think i stop playing "Armored Warfare" for a while to avoid a new "BSOD"/"black screen reboot".
Average tasks like Firefox, video/music-player, office , ...., ...., should not cause more "BSODs"/"black screens" ?

I found some other event-IDs (maybe they are not very critical) and i wanted to solve these issues as next.
I wanted to get a second opinion in the sysnative-forums: i already searched on the internet for solutions
for this IDs and i found some answers but i wanted to be sure and ask again here in this forum:

* Kernel-PnP: ID 219 (when i'm using USB-HDDs, sticks, SD-cards).
* Kernel-Processor-Power: ID 37
* perflib: ID 1008, qualifier 49152 (from time to time: maybe once a week)

So i will open new threads for these issues.

BTW:
I didnt replace any drivers on msi-GT72 because lots of people were writing in forums: dont install the latest drivers
always use the "outdatet" ones from MSI, SONY, ACER, DELL and so on... .
On the other side there were lots of users that were telling everybody: "i never used the old drivers
from MSI, ACER, DELL. I've been always using the latest ones and i've never had any problems with my laptops".

So im still quite confused about drivers for laptops. Some time ago (2,3 years ago) i decided to use only
the older msi-drivers to avoid serious problems. I'm running 2 other laptops ("msi GE60-2PE": GTX 860M, i7
and "Packard Bell EN-TSX62": GT540M, i5) with these outdated drivers and I've never had serious issues so i
thought my decission was right and therefore i didnt change any driver on the msi-GT72.

OK, thanks a lot for this solution and see yahhh soon guys !

A lot of people tend to stick to the mentality of, "if it isn't broken, don't fix it". If a driver update is put out that only fixes a few bugs which aren't impacting you, there's not any benefit to updating it. That said, depending on what the drivers are for, a lot of times they can include important security updates which are very much worth having, or miscellaneous performance improvements. Generally, I'd say video drivers are worth keeping up-to-date, as they frequently include performance benefits, and they're easy to roll back if there's an issue with the latest ones.

As for where you might see the BSOD and black screen crop up, it's hard for me to say. It's certainly possible the problem was specific to something the game was doing, and that actually seems plausible based on your description. You shouldn't need to avoid playing Armored Warfare, it actually seems like that's the easiest way for you to test the issue currently. If you don't experience any more crashes when playing the game after the driver update, then your current problem is most likely resolved. You can always post back here if it shows up again.

OK, fine! I'll replace the driver as soon as possible.
I will post here in this thread again if i was successful or not (BSOD again.... :\ )

Before replacing the driver i first want to try to find a solution (new thread) for the event-IDs
and for (i think) a "false/positive" (virus-detection, STEAM-Game).

I have a question:
Last year (August 2015) I had the first BSOD. It was about 4 weeks after
i puchased the laptop. I opened a thread on a big german PC-board and I
uploaded the minidump. A user told me to uninstall the (preinstalled) "Norton internet Security":
this software caused the BSOD. I also tried to find a solution and i found some threads on the
internet about "NIS": this software was sometimes causing BSODs... I uninstalled NIS
and everything was working fine again....

I still have the minidump and this file: MEMORY.DMP. Is it possible to get
from You a second opinion (after 6 months)? Or is it too late ?
Was it the right decission to uninstall "NIS"?

thx a lot and see yaahhh soon !

LASERone

If you'd like to upload them, I don't mind taking a look. The MEMORY.DMP file will need to be hosted on another site like OneDrive, MEGA, Dropbox, etc, as it's too big to attach here. Without having seen anything, it would not surprise me in the least if Norton was giving you issues at that time.

OK fine, here are the two files from August 2015: minidump-file and (zipped) "memory.dmp"

https://www.dropbox.com/s/grhroq9t6o30gk4/081515-5906-01.dmp?dl=0

https://www.dropbox.com/s/to60eej4vclctw8/MEMORY.zip?dl=0

Description:
i turned the laptop on and opened a network directory on my second laptop.
And then i left the laptop alone/idle: two hours later the BSOD happened.

After the thread on a big german PC-board i deinstalled "NIS" (also used the "Norton removal tool").
And i also disabled the feature "quick/fast boot" in Win 8.1 (a user in this thread told me to turn this feature off).
Now I'm using "F-Secure Internet Security 2016".

thx and see yahhh !

LASERone

Both of those dumps are from 15 August 2015 -- over 5 months old.

Is that the last time you had a BSOD?

The fact that the full kernel dump (memory.dmp) has an August 2015 timestamp indicates that is so -

Is that the last time you had a BSOD?

OK here is a "history" of all my "heavy" crashes on this Laptop. "Heavy" means: BSOD or Black Screen.
I only had 2 times a BSOD: in August 2015 and (now) in January 2016.

The first time in August 2015 (about 3 Weeks (??) after i purchased the laptop): i was doing nothing on this machine (machine was idle).
The second time January 2016: i was playing "Armore Warfare".

I also had 2 times a "black screen" (i guess in november and december 2015): i was playing "armored Warfare" and an another
F2P-Shooter "Warface".

"Warface" is developed by crytek ("Crysis"): Games | Crytek.
Link to "Warface": Warface® | Crytek

"Armored Warfare" is using the graphic engine from Crytek
So i guess thats the reason both games are crashing.....

I also must say: i had alot of "normal" crashes with this two games ( lots of freezes, crashes, lags or the games just stopped working....)
I had no other "heavy" issues/crashes at all. The laptop is workin fine when i dont play this 2 games: i had no problems at all with other (big)
games like: BF4, the crew, GRID-series, Call of duty-series, DIRT-series, CS:GO ... , ....

So i think this 2 games are just too buggy... and its not a problem with this laptop.... :)

thx a lot and see yahh soon.....!

Hi !

You shouldn't need to avoid playing Armored Warfare, it actually seems like that's the easiest way for you to test the issue currently. If you don't experience any more crashes when playing the game after the driver update, then your current problem is most likely resolved. You can always post back here if it shows up again.

I agree with you - the games seem to be the problem.

OK guys so thank you all for Your support and help !!

I will replace (as soon as possible) the video driver and will start playing Armored Warfare/Warface again.
But first i want to get rid of 3 eventIDs and (i guess) a false/positive detection on this Laptop. So i will open new threads for this issues soon.

I already tested/uploaded this 2 suspicious files to virustotal.com ( https://www.sysnative.com/forums/windows-tips-and-tricks/3022-get-second-opinion-virus-total.html
Everything was OK: zero detections and even a file signature was found so i think this 2 files (its a steam-game: "GRID autosport") are not infected.

I will post here again if i get another BSOD while playing "Armored warfare" and "warface".

See yahh soon guys !!
