BSOD at "odd" times

I've recently gotten a BSOD after the computer was put to sleep. I simply turned on the monitor and there it was. I don't remember the exact code, but when I checked it on Google, it was some sort of hardware failure?

Now it's simply restarting when I play Rift. Not all the time though. Sometimes it'll restart in the first 5 minutes then other times I can play for hours.

The most recent problem is that I cannot open "programs and features" under control panel.

I'm here because I found where someone had run SFC and I tried to run it. It ran fine, but came back with corrupt files it couldn't fix.

I've also put in a new video card and reinstalled windows recently when I was having other similar problems. I thought that fixed it, but they're back :(

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this.

TLDR? My PC restarts when I play Rift (and yes, I should be able to run it).

I have attached the "jcgriff" file, but I cannot run perfmon /report from start. I get an error about the MUI missing. Below are the answers to the Sys info questions:

Hi,

The attached DMP file is of the UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP (7f) bugcheck.

This means a trap occurred in kernel mode, and it's a trap of a kind
that the kernel isn't allowed to have/catch (bound trap) or that
is always instant death (double fault).

The processor identified a problem, but Windows was unable to deal with it.

This problem can occur when any of these issues occur:

・ Defective memory, memory incorrectly installed or mismatched memory sticks
・ BIOS having the wrong settings and/or overclocking the processor (CPU) or memory
・ Stopped or slow fans causing overheating
・ Defective or buggy hardware or video drivers
・ Defective Processor (CPU)

nvlddmkm.sys in the call stack (nVidia video driver)

Ensure you have the latest video card drivers. If you are already on the latest video card drivers, uninstall and install a version or a few versions behind the latest to ensure it's not a latest driver only issue. If you've already tried the latest version as well as many possible previous versions, you can try a beta driver if available.

Temporarily remove and replace AVG with Microsoft Security Essentials for troubleshooting purposes:

AVG removal tool - AVG | Download tools and utilities

MSE - Microsoft Security Essentials - Microsoft Windows

ASACPI.sys - Sun Mar 27 22:30:36 2005

^^ Asus ATK0110 ACPI Utility (a known BSOD maker in Win7 and Win8 with pre 2010 versions). Also a part of many Asus utilities. Visit your Asus motherboard page and update all Asus utilities ASAP.

e1y60x64.sys - Mon Aug 18 17:45:05 2008

^^ Intel(R) 82567LM Gigabit Network Connection. Ensure your network related drivers are also up to date via your Asus motherboard page as well.

If the above software recommendations do not help, restarting under load is also indicative of power supply issues, how old is your power supply?

Patrick

So I uninstalled AVG and installed MSE. Then I updated my Network driver and downloaded two other drivers I realized I was missing.
I can't find "Asus ATK0110 ACPI Utility" on the webpage for my motherboard:

ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download Rampage III Extreme

I also completely removed my video driver and installed an older one.

My power supply is 2 years old. Before I reinstalled Windows, I checked the CPU and the RAM. They both came back without any errors :\

The fans seem to run fine, but I will try to be conscience of their speed if I get another BSOD.

I guess my BIOS setting could be wrong...although I've never changed them or flashed my BIOS.

Thanks again for the help so far.

Hi,

Great work. The utility is most likely in correlation with
ASUS AI Suite V1.06.14 for Windows 32/64bit XP & 32/64bit Vista & 32/64bit 7.

If you have the AI Suite installed, I'd recommend grabbing the latest version on your motherboard page.

Regards,

Patrick
