Bluetooth Radio disappeared from Device Manager

Hi guys,

I use Win7 Ultimate and recently I got the problem that my internal Bluetooth radio stopped working and it completely disappeared from the Device Manager.

Windows does not detect its presence in the system and I cannot see any yellow exclamation mark indicating that there is some device not working properly or that a driver is not installed properly.

I have a hardware switch on my notebook that is used to turn BT and WiFi on and off. When I turn ON the switch, my Wi-Fi is working properly but no sign that BT radio is present. In my BIOS I could not find any setting that allows me to enable/disable internal BT radio.

Is there any registry setting that might be manipulated to enable/disable internal BT radio?

Does anyone have a suggestion how can I get my Bluetooth to work again.

Many thanks in advance.

Sadly, you told us nothing about your computer, except it is a notebook and maybe running Vista or Windows 7. Are you sure this notebook even has an "internal" BT adapter?

I have a similar switch on my notebook, but it only disables/enables wifi.

In the BIOS, do you see the BT device?

Hi Digerati,
Thanks for your reply.
My notebook is Fujitsu S6410, Intel Core(TM)2 Duo CPU, T7500 @ 2.2GHz, 4GB RAM, running Win 7 32bit.

In the meanwhile I have checked following based on some other posts on the internet.

After I run services.msc I could see only following two services listed and with the Status and Startup Type as shown inside the brackets.
- Bluetooth Support Service (Started, Automatic)
- Bluetooth Feature Support (Started, Automatic)
Some posts were suggesting that I should also check the status of the Bluetooth Service. There is NO service called Bluetooth Service listed. Where shall I find this service? How to start it?
I have also downloaded the latest driver from Fujitsu website. It is the same version as the one I have initially installed on my computer sometime ago. No further updates. Anyways I have tried running it. Small window opens up for very brief moment and closes up so quickly that I couldn't see what was written. As I said initially there is not indication that the driver is missing or that some hardware is not working properly (no yellow exclamation mark in device manager). Simply the whole Bluetooth Radio is missing from the Device Manager.

Do you have any further suggestions?

Thank you.

Hi Digerati,

Sorry I've forgotten to reply your questions regarding the switch and the BIOS.

My computer has internal BT adapter. I was using it for long time before it disappeared.
I was unable to find any location inside the BIOS with some BT settings.

Looking forward to additional suggestions.

Thanks.

From what I can find, that notebook came out a couple years before Windows 7 suggesting you upgraded the OS at a later date. Just to be sure we are on the same page, did your wireless adapter work after upgrading to W7?

What are you trying to connect? A BT mouse or keyboard? And are you sure they still work fine (fresh batteries?)?

I am not sure about your services. I just checked two systems here (W7 and W8.1) and both have Bluetooth Support Service listed, but on both systems, the service is set to Manual, and is NOT started. Yet both systems use BT keyboards and mice. That is the only [apparent] BT related service I have listed.

Hi Digerati,
Thanks for your comments.
Yes, I have used my internal Bluetooth after I have upgraded my OS to Win 7. It was working without problems.

I normally use it for streaming the music from my PC to the Bluetooth enabled speaker. The problem is not related to the connection with external devices. Speaker works fine as I could successfully connect it to my phone. The problem is that my internal Bluetooth radio does not work at all. It has been somehow disabled. I can't even try to make a connection because my internal BT radio doesn't show up on my notebook.

Looking forward to additional suggestions.

Thanks.

If you are certain your notebook does not have a separate (from wifi) physical switch to enable/disable BT, and you are certain there is no way to disable/enable BT in the BIOS setup menu, and the fact it did work at one time, then that suggests to me the device has failed.

If this is a very recent problem, you might try to use System Restore to return to a point in time before the problem started.

Sorry for not being of much help. :(

Hi Digerati,
Thanks for your reply.
I have checked the restore points but Windows shows the earliest Restore Point available is about a month ago when I did system restore from the system image (I upgraded to larger HDD). No Restore Points before that date are available for some reason.
Issue is that I lost my Bluetooth before that, around two/three months ago. Therefore, I can not use this method to fix the problem.
Anyone else has some other suggestions?
Thanks.

I wish you came here 2-3 months ago when the problem was first noticed. :(

Since your motherboard has integrated BT, I find it hard to believe the BT device cannot be enabled or disabled in the BIOS. Sadly, I cannot find your manual online but I recommend you double-check there.

If you uninstall the BT drivers from Windows, then reboot, does Windows detect the ["New hardware found"] device and attempt to re-install drivers? If not, then I would suspect the device is disabled (turned off) in the BIOS Setup Menu, or the device is faulty.

You do have a viable, inexpensive alternative. You can buy a new BT dongle, assuming you have a spare USB port.

Hi Digerati,
Thanks for your suggestions. I have checked again and again my BIOS and could not find any settings re BT. :-(

Anyways your suggestion to buy new BT dongle is viable and I am gonna go for it.
Thanks for your support.
