Hi Everybody,

I did a clean reinstall of Windows 10 Home to find out that Asus installed all their programs including McAfee from 2015 and I spent a day trying to get rid of all the nonsense. Hopefully the BSODs can be corrected.

i have been working on this Asus for a friend for days now. I would appreciate any help-assistance with these issues. I am a little rusty since I have not been keeping up with computers for awhile. LOL

Thank you all!
Sherry

Now I understand why Rob posted here, providing emotional support!

I'm going to have a look at the logs.

Do you know more about the history of the laptop? Like if there were crashes before the reinstall and what the error codes were?

Yes, When the owner gave it to me he told me that it was getting a lot of Blue Screens. This laptop was running really bad until I recovered it and reinstalled Windows. But mostly McAfee was inbedded in this Asus since 2015. I used the McAfee Tool Cleaner to get rid of most of McAfee. Mostly games were being played on here he said. Like Steamgames. I have not reinstalled Steam yet.

Sorry the only error code I get is Windows update to Windows 11. Hold on I will get that code for you.

EDITED: There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x80070643)

I do not have any of the previous error codes from before when I received it because he had this PC all messed up so I just did a supposedly clean reinstall. I know the Windows update has something to do with the lack of space on the hard drive.I tried fixing but couldn't repartion the drive because of lack of experience I guess.

Could you run the RAM test Memtest86 from the BSOD posting instructions please. Run it twice preferably.

I noticed the RAM modules don't match quite well, I'm not sure how well the laptop can handle that but normally it's not a good idea to use modules of which the specs don't match which seems to be the case here. Due to the different BSOD crashes I see from after the reinstall, my initial suspicion is hardware.

I also noticed chkdsk has been run a few times, seems to have fixed some problems but I would recommend running chkdsk with /v on the third partition

Chkdsk log from yesterday:

Thank you! Will do as suggested I did run chkdsk a few times. Yes, I have always known that it is better to run same memory-Ram in these computers. The owner said he had Best Buy add another Hard drive but I didn't ask about the memory.

In the logs I saw the memory modules are different, i.e. different speed and latency as well as from different brands (one of them I couldn't find the brand of which is a clue by itself). Couldn't find much about the rest of the specs though so might be interesting to run CPU-Z for potential more insight on the specs there.

I got another Memory Management BSOD screen which put it in recovery/ restart mode. Except it's doing a dskcheck/r/f right now. If it's the Memory which you are probably right. I have 2 Memory sticks that I'm going to see if I can swap them out. I don't think the Memory Test 86 will go through on this laptop. So I have nothing to lose if I try changing the memory/ ram.
I will definitely give the CPU-Z a shot.

Thank you so very much for your help. Greatly appreciated!🤗 I'll keep you posted...lucky you 🤣

I forgot I initiated this chkdisk yesterday...

I saw that chkdsk in the logs yes, a few chkdsk scans have been initiated over the past few days. But one may be additionally needed on the third partition based on the chkdsk log from an event I posted earlier.

Okay, I understand now. Great will check that out as well. This is a GL503GE-RS71 . Chkdsk is still running. Ugh...I didn't update any drivers as I wasn't sure which ones were needed since Device Manager looked good enough?Dont mean to bombbard this thread but ...🙃

Hello @axe0

I will work on the MemoryTest86 like you mentioned.

Hi again. I'm worried that I didn't install the MemoryTest86 correctly after looking at this Asus Bios. It shows 1 and 2 USBs?

Forgive my butting in here, @axe0 is way more experienced than I, but mismatched RAM is known to cause all manner of issues (depending on how mismatched it is). Flaky RAM can mess up any other software you run (like chkdsk) so I would suggest that it's important to get the RAM stable first bafore looking at anything else. IMO the best option for you is not to run Memtest86 but to remove the additional 8GB RAM stick. It may be that the original 8GB is soldered in, some laptop vendors do this, in which case remove the one stick that you can. See whether it's stable on just one stick.

If both RAM sticks are removable then after a day or two (or after more BSODs) then swap the sticks over and run on just the other stick for a day or two.

Hello @axe0 and @ubuysa

I switched out the Ram for Asus because after doing a Memory Diagnostics using Windows Memory Testing it said that I had faulty hardware. Event Viewer showed the diagnostics test errors. I believe these Rams are the same. The CPUz showed below in photos. The Memory PNG was the test with the old memory. I will do another Memory Test with the modules that I just put in. I haven't had any BSODs yet. Please advise. If I have to purchase new Ram I will.

Thank you so much for all your help, time, and patience with this issue.
