There is a lot of corruption here. Do you happen to have your Windows 7 x64 with SP1 CD/DVD?

Also, please run the following.

Step#1 - System Update Readiness Tool (SUR)
1. Download and run the following file.
2. When it asks you if you wish to install, please answer yes. Note: It could take 15 minutes or more to run. Please don't cancel.
3. You will get an Installation Complete screen when it's done running.
4. Please attach the log from the following location. C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

Originally my system was XP and I used an upgrade disc to install windows 7 ultimate. I did try to upgrade to windows 10 but discovered my motherboard was not compatible. 8 months ago my system crashed and a computer shop installed windows 7 again so I don't have a disc, however I have downloaded a disc with windows 7 ultimate with SP1.

I have just downloaded SUR and will post the results.

Thanks for the information. There were some fixes that were made which is good but I'll need a fresh log. Please run SURT again and post the updated CheckSUR.log.

Thanks for the information. There were some fixes that were made which is good but I'll need a fresh log. Please run SURT again and post the updated CheckSUR.log.

I tried to run it again but I kept getting an error message so I did a system restore to where I did the first SURT. Reinstalling now but it has been in the install mode for 6 hours. It has seems to have stalled around the 95% mark but the CPU usage is still showing increased usage. I will let it run for a few more hours and see how it goes.

I persisted and it took another 2 hours. I then did the second SURT as requested which took 5 more hours.

Excellent. Please don't do a System Restore without checking with me first while we are working on your machine. I may have been able to give you another way to do this. I'll review the log and be back with you.

OK, please start with the following.

Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

SFCFix.zip failed to run and I received an ERROR message saying the zip file was corrupt and to download again and retry. Did so and the same message appeared.
