Alternate browsers

Hi gang,

I just wanted to post a list of other browsers available for people. They are all free. Your mileage may vary on their total compatibility but if you are like me and like to experiment with other browsers, here are a few to check out.

There is also a utility called "Browser Chooser" that you can set as your default browser and get a choice when opening links. Just search them out on Bing or Google and read up on them if you have questions.

I usually use chrome for basic browsing...

When it comes to working or anything that I need plugins for I use: http://www.cometbird.com/

Just another firefox build... I have stuck with this one for almost a year now :)

I'm using Chrome with a couple of plugins at the moment - LastPass, WOT etc. I used to use Opera for years, decided to try Chrome recently.

I used to use Firefox. John convinced me to use IE. I honestly have no idea how! I am not even sure if I like it!

Firefox came out with an update for 14.0a1 earlier. I think their rapid development is fine, just their decisions to hesitate on getting these newer versions out that is completely senseless. After updating my Firefox has crashed 3 times already. Not a stable version. And I don't know why they have their version numbers go up so quick either. IE is only on 10, and now I think it's got a higher version number than most browsers out there. If they keep it up they will be at version 20 by the time it hits a good stable release. Not sure why they can't take the time to work on one version thoroughly and release it after THEY do the debugging but it seems they put that burden on it's users more than testing it for themselves. I enjoy Firefox for the addons, but the management of it it just ridiculous now.

My version of Chrome is on 17 right now, also seems to be updating. Edit: Just updated to: 18.0.1025.142 m

You know you are on the Alpha channel right? If you want a stable release you should be on v11 currently. Or even one of the two current beta releases (v12, v13). The whole point of alpha is that there invariably will be bugs - which those that use the Alpha channel should know how to isolate and help fix before the version progresses to beta1, beta2 and finally release.

I know, but for things like this they still shouldn't be releasing it so soon. These bugs are obvious, and I don't have any addons installed at the moment to conflict. There's no point in releasing an alpha if you already know of a few bugs that could be fixed before getting the public opinion on it. Otherwise you're hearing about what you already know. And this, I hope, didn't get unseen somehow.

I could do this, but i'm curiosity still rocks the boat for me regardless of whether the interest or motivation is there or not for me to help out.

The idea with the alpha channels is that you file bug reports when you find 'em. Really, the alpha channels aren't for everyone...those who want stable versions should use a more stable channel!
 
I submitted the report yesterday :beerchug2:. Through the log and use of increasing memory in each thread it seems to be evident that their cache control portion was causing my crashes... That's the one reason why I don't like Firefox though, even though it is one of my favorite browsers. The dependencies of the cache to view pages. As soon as you try to completely turn it off, which is basically not a configurable option in Firefox in comparison to a browser like IE, everything seems to go into a confused state. It's too reliant on cache, which is why I enjoy a browser like IE for webmaster purposes unless, i'm checking for browser optimization on a specific webpage. (IE is the oddball out of the 3 main ones that you need to make sure, view a webpage correctly if you're creating a website; IE, Chrome, Firefox).

I agree. I used beta and alpha for everything except web browsers. I just want my web browser to work perfectly. One of the things which made me leave Firefox was I was sick to death of it crashing - that was one of the supposedly stable releases. Firefox have some very good versions, but too many very buggy versions!
 
I haven't used Firefox since it started becoming more bloated as IE (or better yet, Netscape Navigator which it was originally based on). I have been using Chrome for most of my browsing and IE when it's required... I do notice that some pages with content work better on IE but have no issues with Chrome for the most part...

The biggest thing I like about Chrome is that there are very few piggy-back toolbars and plug-ins for it...
