Presenting problem: Windows Features dialog box empty.

Ran sfc which found no violations.
Ran SURT, which found a few problems: Package_277_for_KB3212646, Package_278_for_KB3212646. Per directions at MS, I downloaded the service pack from MS catalog, placed it in the proper temp folder and ran SURT again. No luck.
I also tried and failed to delete the registry keys, per Raymond.cc for \Package_277_for_KB3212646 and \Package_278.

Please help. Details below.

~~ NOTE: When we get this fixed, I would love to know why following the directions on these sites did NOT fix my problem.

Re: Windows Features dialog box empty. & .mum files missing

Hello and welcome to Sysnative!

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

 1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
 2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
 3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
 4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
 5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
 6. SFCFix will now process the script.
 7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
 8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put

tags around the log to break up the text.

Afterwards, please run SURT again and attach CheckSUR.log
Also tell me if you Features box has been populated.

OMG softwaremaniac,
It's Fixed!

You did it again. You helped me few weeks ago. I was hoping if I gave you the right info, you could fix it in one go. And you did. Windows Features also works fine now. I tried for hours to fix it and failed. People tend to reinstall when they see this sort of error. Glad I didn't have to reinstall. Thank you so much. You rule.

~~ Now for the hard part, but only if you have time:
Q: Why did following the directions on these sites NOT fix my problem? Are they wrong?

Re: Windows Features dialog box empty. & .mum files missing

What I have done in my fix (only another way) were the steps outlined in the first article. I would disagree with the second article, because there is really no need to delete anything if you have the replacement files. I hope I have helped.

What I do, is I extract the missing files and "pack them up" with "instructions for SFCFix.exe to "read", so it knows where to place what.

Glad to hear it's working again. I'll mark the thread as solved.

Take care.
