When I try to run the game Crusader Kings 2 I get an error about the file d3dx9_41 telling me it's missing or corrupted. I've tried the websetup and the directx_Jun2010_redist installation. The former tells me the version I have is newer or the same as the one I try to install, and the latter generates an error.

DxDiag.txt: DxDiag.txt - Pastebin.com

After running directx_Jun2010_redist installation

DirectX.log file: DirectX.log - Pastebin.com

and the DXError.log just tells me

  • [06/18/18 20:49:57] module: dxupdate(Mar 30 2011), file: dxupdate.cpp, line: 5861, function: DirectXUpdateInstallPlugIn
  • RegisterDllFromSection() failed.
  • --------------------
  • [06/18/18 20:49:57] module: dsetup32(Mar 30 2011), file: dxupdate.cpp, line: 280, function: CSetup::InstallPlugIn
  • DirectXUpdateInstallPlugIn() failed.
  • --------------------
  • [06/18/18 20:49:57] module: dsetup32(Mar 30 2011), file: setup.cpp, line: 1727, function: CSetup::SetupForDirectX
  • InstallPlugIn() failed.

After running the SFC /SCANNOW it tells me there are errors that it cannot resolve, and SFCFIX tells me there are about 600 errors most of which it can't resolve

sfc /scannow cbs log: CBS.txt - Google Drive

SFCFIX log: SFCFIX - Pastebin.com

I don't have a Windows 7 disc so I can't run the more advanced repair in sfcfix that asks for the disc.

If anyone knows what I can do to solve this it would really help me out.

Based on the computer, MS will sometimes not allow you to download a Win 7 ISO because it doesn't accept OEM keys.

If you go here HeiDoc.net: The Technology Treasure Chest
and download the program to the left, Microsoft Windows and Office Download ISO, and install it, you can download the ISO you need. I used the tool in the past to download the ISOs I needed to archive.

Re: Problem with DX9 (d3dx9_41) in Windows 7

Didn't find a working link to a clean reliable Windows 7 so I searched some more and found that the SysWOW64 folder in C:\Windows contains the directX dll files as well. I just deleted the d3dx9_41 and ran the Microsoft websetup for DirectX and it did the trick. Installed with no problem. Wow. So much trouble solved by deleting a corrupted file.

Thanks for you help guys. Just wanted to update this post for anyone coming after me.
