Hello,
I have a system running Win 7 Home edition. To back up, I plug in an external drive, a WD passport.

I run Windows backup, and at the conclusion I get a message "Check your backup results", with next line saying "The backup completed but some files were skipped", with an Options button.

When I click on Options, I get an option to check skipped files, This reports these files were skipped:

Backup encountered a problem while backing up file C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\LocalLow. Error:(The system cannot find the file specified. (0x80070002))
Backup encountered a problem while backing up file C:\Users\Administrator\Contacts. Error:(The system cannot find the file specified. (0x80070002))
Backup encountered a problem while backing up file C:\Users\Administrator\Searches. Error:(The system cannot find the file specified. (0x80070002))

Would someone tell me how to fix this?

Thank you in advance.

Hi m60Jf.
This should be normal according to MS Support: Error code 0x8100002F and or error code 0x80070002 when you back up files in Windows 7 (click). Summary (quoted from that page):

Hi xilolee,

After reading the MS Support on your link with error code 0x80070002, then yes it seems normal. More specifically they give three Scenarios, and the Scenario 2 is closest to my error. Generically under Scenario 2 they posted "...<User Name> ... ". In my results that would be "Administrator".

Is there a way to put the missing files in place (whatever they are) so the backup will give the simple message "Backup Completed Successfully".

Other than that message it gives me the idea that I should not consider the backup to be successful. A successful message gives peace of mind.

Thank you for your response.

I understand that you are getting error 0x80070002 while trying to backup files.
For better understanding of the issue please provide us following information:

 1. Have you made any changes to the computer prior this issue?
 2. Have you changed the location of the ‘Users’ Folder?
Please follow these steps and let me know if it helps:
Check for the Missing Profiles in Registry
To check whether you have missing profiles:
1. Open regedit, navigate to the above registry key. (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList). Expand the list.

2. Click on each of the profiles listed. The first 3 profiles should have ProfileImagePath value of
%SystemRoot%\System32\Config\SystemProfile,
%SystemRoot%\ServiceProfiles\LocalService, and
%SystemRoot%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService respectively.

3. Starting from the 4th profile, the ProfileImagePath should contain path to the user profiles on your machine, such as C:\users\Christine

4. If one or more of the profile has no profile image, then you have missing profiles.
To work around this, delete the profile in question
Caution: The registry contains critical settings that are necessary for your system to function properly. Take extra caution while making changes

1. First, export the ProfileList key for safekeeping. (Right click on the key, choose “Export”, and save it to the desktop.)
2. Right click on the profile in question, choose delete.
3. Try back up again.

Note: Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall the operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.
