Hi,

I'm having internet speed issue.

I tried a speedtest on a new fresh user account and reach like 500mbps of DL speed, then after like 5-10mins it ended up stuck à 150mbps again. I think something gets install or configure in the background that retain my internet speed.

Any ideas what it can be ?

Main user account : Speedtest by Ookla - The Global Broadband Speed Test (150mbps maximum)
New user account : Speedtest by Ookla - The Global Broadband Speed Test (600mbps maximum)

Still no changes after :
- disabling all thrid-party programs with msconfig
- sfc/dism didn't found any corruptions
- reset my wireless card with up-to-date firmware
- Repair Windows with the 'keep files and settings' feature

Intel® Core™ i7-8550U CPU @ 1.80GHz
Intel® Wireless-AC 9260 160MHz
Windows 19043.1110

Thanks in advance!

What happens when you connect your router to an Ethernet network card?

You can use TCPView utility to view all network connections.

I second utilizing TCPView to see all the connections.

Are you in an apartment building or is your home in one of those neighborhoods with houses 12 feet apart?

Wireless is susceptible to interference from appliances, other routers on the same channel, how many users are on your router, etc.

Get full speed 1gbit/s

I really think it's a software issue cause really just after creating a new user account I can reach +500mbps DL on it and with other devices too.
I've Windows 11 on dual boot and can get +500mbp constantly.

I'm trying to monitor it with ProcessMonitor but its not that easy...

I'm in a adjacent house

I don't see anything suspicious on TCPView.

Download Nir Sofer's WifiInfoView. you can monitor signal strength, channels, etc. If you're on the same channel as others, change the channel from within your router's admin settings.

Also, try 2.4 GHz as it fairs better through walls than 5 GHz.

I've been using Nir's apps for years. They are safe. Direct Download WifiInfoView.

That being said, I also think it's software-related. Let me do some more rersearch.

I'm the only one on channel 100.

It's in my interest to stay on 5GHz since in 2.4GHz I'm stuck at like 100mbps (on both account)...

I've compared the "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4d36e972-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\0001\Ndi\Params" registry keys and they're bothh the same.
It's the settings on the Advanced tab in Device Manager.

Download this small utility, TCP Optimizer 4, and compare the readings on each User. It's not an installed program. Right-click on the TCPOptimizer.exe and choose open as Administrator. Once open, you'll see a drop-down arrow, make sure and choose your wireless adapter. Once that's done, look at the general settings tab and the advanced settings tab in each User account. See if there are differences.

You can even choose Optimal and tweak your settings if you want. It gives a choice to save before the tweak is done so you can revert if needed. You'll need to reboot after tweaking.

This is another utility I have used since Windows 98 without issue and with success in some cases.

PS: You'll need to run it each time as an Administrator.

This utility modifies the registry and as such, I would create a Restore Point before use, just in case.

Same settings and no change with optimal settings....

In the driver properties,
Compare the settings of your nic in both accounts.
If they differ, change your nic settings in your main account accordingly.
To repeat what xilolee said in the above quote, are the settings in your NIC advance properties the same. For instance, speed&duplex are they both set to auto? Are any of the Green or energy-saving choices enabled?

Yes they're both the same. I've compared manualy and with the registry keys. I turn off MIMO energy mode too.

I'm not sure this will help but you can use the attached batch script to reset TCP/IP protocol suite.
.
No change.

Tomorrow, I'm receiving a new wifi router, maybe it would help.

So, I just did some test with the new routeur (ax50).

I set the channel bandwitch of the new router to 80MHz, since my ISP router wifi is set to 80MHz too.

On the main account --> new router AP -->400mpbs DL maximum
On the main account --> ISP AP --> 150mbps DL on average.

On the new account --> new router AP -->+500mbps DL on average.
On the new account --> ISP AP --> +500mbps DL on average.

It's seems like there is an evolution on the main account using the new router AP. However, it's just no fast as the new account. On a new account, the speedest is really much stable. I can reach +500mbps instantly rather than on the main account, the speed fluctuate a lot during the test.
