Hi,

I am getting the problematic defender installation issue. Looking in the CBS, I believe this is the culprit:

Code:
2023-06-08 14:16:26, Info CBS Failed to pin deployment while resolving Update: Package_7587_for_KB4593226~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~10.0.1.5.4593226-15573_neutral from file: (null) [HRESULT = 0x80073701 - ERROR_SXS_ASSEMBLY_MISSING]
2023-06-08 14:16:26, Info CBS Failed to bulk stage deployment manifest and pin deployment for package:Package_624_for_KB5025228~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~10.0.1.7 [HRESULT = 0x80073701 - ERROR_SXS_ASSEMBLY_MISSING]

Could someone kindly assist? Thanks in advance!

Hi and welcome to Sysnative,

Step 1. Follow these instructions to remove an update.
  • Open the Start menu of Windows and type the command CMD
  • When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.
  • When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following command into it, then press enter.
Code:
wusa /uninstall /KB:4593226
  • Let me know if it says it was successful or you get the message: The update KB4593226 is not installed on this computer.

Step 2. Upload a copy of the CBS folder
  • Open Windows Explorer and browse to the C:\Windows\Logs folder.
  • Right-click on the CBS folder and choose Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.
  • Now the message will appear, "Windows cannot create the Compressed (zipped) Folder here. Do you want it to be placed on the desktop instead?"
  • Click on the Yes button here.

Perfect, please reboot the server and try to install Windows Defender if it fails attach a new copy of the CBS logs.

Works! Thanks so much, you saved me so much time rolling back patches lol

Just for future incidents, do you just take the log and add that CreateRestorePoint: and the delete value to everything in the log? I think I have one more I need to do this to.

You're welcome. Glad to hear the problem is solved.

The directive CreateRestorePoint: is set by default, but SystemRestore it is not available on servers like regular Windows 10 versions so you will see this message: Error: (0) Failed to create a restore point.

Creating a fixlist from the SearchReg result is a little bit complicated, so I would suggest to post the CBS log of the other server and I will provide a fix for that server as well.
