Hello,

I have a problem with applying February cumulative update (KB4074588), which gives me an error 0x80070057 every time I try to install it.

I've tried running sfc /scannow, but it fails on 47%, saying that "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation" (running it in safe mode gave me the same result). Digging through the log file, I've found this error message:

2018-02-26 17:04:08, Error CSI 00002952@2018/2/26:16:04:08.926 (F) onecore\base\wcp\componentstore\deltastore.cpp(3096): Error STATUS_INVALID_PARAMETER originated in function ComponentStore::CRawStoreLayout::DecompressFile expression: Parameter check failed [gle=0x80004005]

SFCFix.exe didn't find any problems.

The operating system is Windows 10 Pro x64.

I'm attaching the log files from CBS directory.

Thank you!

Hello and welcome!

Step#1 - DISM /RestoreHealth Scan
Warning:this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Right-click on the Start button and select Command Prompt (Admin)
  2. When command prompt opens, Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Right-click > Paste) the following command into it, then press Enter
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  3. Once it finishes, copy and paste the following into the command-prompt window and press Enter. If prompted to overwrite the existing file go ahead.
    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  4. Once this has completed please go to your Desktop and you will find CBS.txt => Please zip/upload to this thread.
Please Note:: if the file is too big (over 7MB) to upload to your next post, please upload via a service such as One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

Step#1 - Capture Process Monitor Trace
1. Download and run Process Monitor. Leave this running while you perform the next steps.
2. Open an elevated Command Prompt and run Windows Updates just like you have in the past.
3. Stop Process Monitor as soon as it fails. You can simply do this by clicking the magnifying glass on the toolbar as shown below.

4. Select the File menu...Save... and save the file to your desktop. This is likely the default location. The name (unless changed) will be LogFile.PML. This is fine.
5. Zip up and attach the LogFile.PML file as well as your CBS.log

I followed your instructions, but the size of the produced file is 5 gigabytes. Is that typical and should I really upload it? (zipped size is 474 MB)

However, I'm not sure if I can capture the exact moment when the things go wrong. The whole update process goes like this:

1) I go to Control Panel, Windows Update, and click the button to find new updates
2) KB4074588 is found and it starts downloading
3) After it's finished, it asks me to restart the machine
4) I click the restart button, then I get the cyan screen with spinning dots saying "Getting Windows ready. Don't turn off your computer." It stays like this for approximately one minute, then the message changes to "Restarting" and the computer restarts. Nothing else is displayed (like "XX% completed").
5) After Windows boots up, the same message ("Getting Windows ready...") is displayed for a few seconds. Then the login screen appears and I log in.
6) After half a minute or so, the message is displayed that the update failed to install (in the bottom right corner). When I click it, it opens the Windows Update control panel which says that the update encountered error 0x80070057.

Hello, I tried disabling it with

bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype off

but the update installation gives me the same error.

I think Hyper-V was disabled all along though, as the Windows Features window looked like this (even before I ran the command):

Try updating and attach CBS.log. I need to see something that will point me in the right direction.

Re: W10 - KB4074588 error 8007005, SFC failing on deltastore.cpp STATUS_INVALID_PARAM

Retrieve Components Hive
1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload toa file sharing service and just provide the link here.

I'm not sure if there isn't any possibility that the file contains sensitive data, so I've sent you a download link via personal message. Thank you.

Re: W10 - KB4074588 error 8007005, SFC failing on deltastore.cpp STATUS_INVALID_PARAM

Nope. The COMPONENTS hive doesn't. I've received it. Will check it out and get back to you.

Remove Update Manually
1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following command into it, press enter
wusa /uninstall /KB:4056892

4. Let me know if it says it was successful or if there are any errors.

Re: W10 - KB4074588 error 8007005, SFC failing on deltastore.cpp STATUS_INVALID_PARAM

No, it says that it encountered error 0x80073712, "The component store has been corrupted."
