    Thinking of adding another monitor...

I'm thinking about adding an external monitor for my laptop - I've been considering it for a while, but I'm currently trying to edit an article with two squashed Chrome Windows side by side. I only really have space, and money, for one extra screen - is it worth it? Would it just look silly? This is me desperately trying to justify the cost of buying more things.

I don't want to spend too much on the screen, but I don't want it to be appallingly poor quality. Any recommendations for screens?

While the model numbers are different because of the power adapter difference this appears to be the model I've used > http://www.scan.co.uk/products/236-a...1-300cd-m2-5ms

Depends on how much you want to spend :)

Re: Thinking of adding another monitor...

Are there any drawbacks/compatibility problems with using a monitor with a laptop? How much I want to spend depends on how large my next wage packet is... I'll bear that model in mind as a comparison, but I might try and find something cheaper.

Re: Thinking of adding another monitor...

I have two monitors, and despite being massively different in age, quality, size and resolution (a recipe for disaster), I have found them to be immensely useful (albeit in a Desktop rather than a Laptop setup). I know that you didn't ask this, but are you looking for a 16:9 or a 4:3 (or 2.35:1) aspect ratio? As a coder, I hate widescreen monitors: I like to see more short lines, because there are not many long lines in coding, which makes a 4:3 aspect ratio better than a widescreen. 16:9 inverted is a different story though...

Re: Thinking of adding another monitor...

My laptop is 16:9 (I think? It's 1600x900 resolution). I want something to match as close as possible to that, I think if I have a widescreen for my laptop, and then a different external monitor it will look too strange.

I'm currently looking at these two: Link 1

    Link 2

What's so great about the second link that makes it 20 more? Anything comparable for the price, or is it worth spending a bit more?

Doesn't list it in the specs but if the UK models hold true to the US the S19A300 will have more LED's then the S19A100N
Samsung makes a good LED panel.

Add this one to your list> http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-S19B...dp_ob_title_ce
Looks to be the replacement for the S19A300.

I've sold a few Hans G monitor a few years back I had 0 issues with their 4:3 monitors but the 16:9 appears they switched panel manufacturers and had a few with dead pixels and one doa. out of about 20.

I'm considering the latest one you've linked, convenient timing for it's release date. Now just to think of a justification to myself for letting go of 80

    Hopefully not. . .

Am I going to experience any adverse effects with a ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850 graphics card?

One last question, Male to Male VGA is the correct cable for the Samsung S19B150?

Re: Thinking of adding another monitor...

It appears as that is what is included with the monitor, most newer monitors also have a DVI port and or an HDMI but I didn't see any of those listed.

What does your laptop have for video out?

VGA, also has a HDMI cable adapter with the laptop - think the output is a DisplayPort or something, the adapter is DP to HDMI.
