Re: Thinking of adding another monitor...

I would say go for it....

I have 3 monitors all slightly different...

2 22". One is full 1080P the other one only goes up to 1050xsomething
    then I have a 24" which is also 1080p...

2 monitors makes a world of difference when working...

Just keep in mind it will be more demanding on your laptops GPU and may result in drop in performance in games...

If it does just disable it when you play.

I bought it. . . I guess I'll just wait for wages or my student loan to come into my bank before I look at the balance

Wouldn't you want to check before hand?

My student loans come in shortly yet they go straight into savings for when I transfer... (got a full ride to my current college so no need for the loan... but, it will make it so I don't have to take out private loans later)

I already know the balance, I just want to keep it at the balance it is (was) in my mind. I'm just not sure I want the reminder of the price for a while.

You must not be a very good shopper

I bought my lower quality 22" monitor with a wall mount for $60 used :)

    What's your best buy?

I don't know what I would consider mine...

    Two 5870's I got for $120

Got my laptop for $200 (Asus k50ij)

Re: Thinking of adding another monitor...

I'm not sure if this counts, as it was technically a goodwill replacement (after much shouting at Dell), but my current laptop: Alienware M15x, i5 processor, 4GB RAM, ATI Radeon HD 5850 etc, 2 Year next day business support = 90 - it was the replacement for an XPS M1330, Core 2 Duo - about 4 years old now.

Most of my recent buys have been books, many many books.

I think that counts.... quite an accomplishment if you ask me :)

Anyway, now that your new monitor is in the mail you have to find a new background!
I just bought 2 books for next term... only $90 which I thought was alright for the class.... Philosophy... eww

@someguy201: I am sure that you already know this, but just to make sure, there is an incedibly useful keyboard shortcut for Windows 7 for this. In Vista, every time I wanted to start a game, I had to go to my desktop, properties, disable my second monitor, click OK several time, and on the other way around it was even worse (desktop, properties, enable, drag screen to left, change resolution, lose desktop icon placement etc.)

A massive pain. In Windows 7, use Windows Key + P to scroll through different monitor configurations. Massively convenient.
Laxer, AceInfinity, usasma and 1 others say thanks for this.

    Happy to help :)

I always wonder about those keyboard shortcuts which exist and I don't know about. But I don't know what I should even be looking for, let alone knowing them!

Re: Thinking of adding another monitor...

I learned that one a few years back when my wife got a laptop and kept telling me there's something wrong with this thing, turns out she was inadvertently turning the screen off. After a couple of weeks of yelling Hit FN F5 across the house I set the FN key to null and it's been fine since
