GPU disappears from Device Manager and I have a Black Screen (monitor not registering,led blinking)

Windows 10 64bit
GPU - Nvidia Geforce 970
i7-6700
16GB RAM

I'm having a issue that whenever I power up my computer my monitor doesn't register (the led keeps blinking) and I have to use remote desktop software to finally see my screen and checked out the device manager and see that my GTX 970 isn't listed there, until I show hidden devices and then I see it grayed out.

I can get it to work again by restarting and powering down a bunch of times and it finally fixes itself until I restart or power down again.

I usually do a SFC /scannow and restart and I see the Intel on board adapter disappear and see the GTX 970 finally, but after I restart or power down it happens all over again.

I did a DISM scan when the SFC didn't cleanup everything but yet again same stuff happens.

I've enclosed my CBS log file and wanted to know if anyone could help me out?

I forgot to mention I also Tried to update to latest driver for GPU and it didn't work so I tried a older version and that didn't work. So I went back to the latest drivers.

Yes, I've run SFC and restarted and ran SFC again and it didn't find any integrity violations.

Step#1 - DISM /RestoreHealth Scan
Warning:this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

Right-click on the Start button and select Command Prompt (Admin)
When command prompt opens, Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Right-click > Paste) the following command into it, then press Enter
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Once it finishes, copy and paste the following into the command-prompt window and press Enter. If prompted to overwrite the existing file go ahead.
copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
Once this has completed please go to your Desktop and you will find CBS.txt => Please zip/upload to this thread.

The only way I can get it to work again is to uninstall the 970 in the device manager and power down and it powers back up and I see the bios and it works again UNTIL I power it down again.

Let's see if upgrading works:

Download the Media Creation Tool and save this to your desktop. Go ahead and run this as well. Note: Click the Download tool now button when you get to this link.
Accept the License Agreement
Download the ISO file to your desktop.
Double-click on the ISO and then run the setup to try and upgrade your machine.

I did what you instructed and I powered down/up and it worked!

I then updated 970 drivers and powered down/up and it worked!

FINALLY! You are amazing softwaremaniac! Thank you so much for taking the time to help me out and get this issue resolved after many many days of troubleshooting myself and looking online for help on forums, and Softwaremanica on Sysnative saves the day!

I'm always curious what the issue was when solving problems, and wanted to know if there was a way to find out what caused this issue to happen and what was the root of the problem?

Crap...

I guess not. Today I went to power on the ROG and the same thing happens again..... ugh.

I figured it worked because I powered down a few times and it worked.

I do want to add that I have a Oculus Quest hooking it up with USB for Oculus Link and have been using that as well, but I contacting Oculus support and gave them info they requested and they said it's not a oculus issue and either Nvidia or something else.

Is there any other steps to do? Thanks for helping!

Sorry for the delay in replying back. While i've been away I have upgraded to the 2070 turbo now and about to try it out and see if the issue will happen with this one.

You mentioned I post a screenshot of this issue for you, what would be the best screenshot to take to show you? There's not much to show other than the device manager the gpu is hidden when the issue happens and I have to unplug oculus link and power down and reset. I'd be happy to show you whatever screenshot you want, just let me know what you need.

I would advise you to start a thread in our Hardware subforum as the experts there may have more ideas if the new GPU does not resolve the issue.

Installation of new GPU didn't help. Now i can't even use remote desktop software to access the screen anymore. I'll make a new thread though, thanks for your help.
