damn, I did try a repair install when I initially had the problem, it went through the process but returned that there was nothing to repair, also tried an in place upgrade but that failed when fetching the updates, I'll try it again tomorrow. thank you for your efforts

hi firstly thanks for any help, much appreciated I've hit errors since the september 2013 update, tried a ton of options including fixit, reseting windows update, I've ran WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab which returned an error that it couldn't fix update error and the system update readiness...
