Just an update: The VM we restored was showing that Windows needed to be activated (a side-effect of restoring to the VM). I downloaded a Windows Server Essentials 2016 Trial Version DVD from Microsoft - I read on several forums that is a full installation disc, which only needs a product key...

If you're suggesting making the VHD directly from the server itself, that would require a lot of effort. That server is in a rural manufacturing facility that is a 2.5 hour (one-way) drive from my location. They have no other meaningful storage on-site to store a VHD image and they have limited...

A new ComponenentBasedServicing hive is attached. Unfortunately, I can't do an in-place upgrade this weekend - I'm already overloaded this weekend and there's no way I could be available (or go on-site) if something went wrong.

I performed a backup, then ran Windows Update again which failed trying to install the March 2024 Cumulative Update (KB5035855) with Error 0x80070057. Fixlog.txt and CBS.log attached.

Unfortunately, updates are still failing. I attempted to manually install the Feb 2024 Cumulative Update. It looks like the system also automatically attempted to download/install the March 2024 Cumulative Update (as it does every day). CBS.log is attached.
