No problem :) You can help me out just before my mid-February exams then :p But make sure you take enough time for revision. If that means leaving the forum almost entirely from now until then, or at a later date, that is absolutely fine. This will in no way affect either your Windows Update or Moderator positions. And that position is hellish to be in. I hated having one file missing so, so, so much. Drove me mad. Messed with my mind, sent me mad. The very best of luck to you, and on your LL when you get there :) P.S. Who is the instructor?

Finally, the tutorial is another step closer to completion. I've been typing for so long my eyes are feeling weird. It had better be worth it!

Yeah, it was me :) You truly deserve it, you are an expert in your own right now. There isn't much more I can teach you now, you know nearly everything I do. And you do an amazing job of applying that knowledge. Always remember what I said initially, that I don't expect you to take threads. Do so if you enjoy it, and you want to, but don't feel pressured into doing so. Let me know how GU is going also :)

Go ahead there friend :) Everything I make I usually allow to be open source, so i'll post code and snippets, and it's up for everybody to learn from and use if they want.

    Hello Tom :)

Not a problem. A (fix) entry will only be generated if SURT itself performs the fix, as we do with standard .cat and .mum and .manifest replacements. A fix made outside of the tool will not generate a (fix) entry, but if done correctly will not show in the next log.

A word of warning, though. With these rare and complex errors, the tool is not 100% accurate, and is not even consistent across executions. It is possible, and may even be likely, that despite those errors disappearing from the latest log file, they are not actually fixed. This is one of the many reasons that I always take a CheckSUR.persist.log.

If we fix all errors in the log, and CBS.log shows nothing helpful, then take a look at the files, registry keys and updates already mentioned, and supposedly fixed. They will quite likely be the cause. Windows Update relies heavily on the registry to keep track of updates. If these registry keys become corrupt, crazy stuff happens. The errors may be somewhere entirely different from where reported by the tool, now supposedly fixed, and still corrupt. You are getting into the black art side of the subject. This is where true expertise, which I simply do not have, is required. But I can show you what I can.

    Part II coming soon.
