update search took 3 hours, but it finished. i then installed as much as i could---some failures. 7 or so reboots later (with new updates continuously appearing), with new updates appearing after each reboot, everything is installed---about a one-day process ---even IE 11, which wouldn't...

let's say the update search is really happening and it does populate after some period of time (although i'm not convinced it will). what should i attempt to download/install first? everything? download in batches and, if so, in what order? thanks.

ran the upgrade, without computer searching for installation updates. 2 errors---avpui-application error re: memory could not be read. and NETFramework 4.5 needs to be repaired (I think this was resolved.) but i could not run any windows updates---searching for updates for over 2 hours...

btw, what I do have---if I can find it---is a windows 7 pro upgrade disc that I burned (system came with win 7 home). original product key (serial number) I have doesn't work, so if I ever need it I have to call MS (they confirm validity of serial number) to give me what seems to be one-time...
