Profuse apologies ... I should have remembered (and researched more deeply) that - blame it on old age !! Looking back now, the resolution was that the hard drive may be failing and I can remember getting it tested by an IT colleague who passed it with flying colours and as the "glitch" wasn't...

I have run GSmartcontrol which completed normally. Attached is a pdf of the screens you requested plus an output text file from the program which may or may not be useful. System still running normally. Many thanks for your efforts.

That is the plan for later this year ...... will need new computer though !!! As the present Vista machine is causing no real problems, I can live with one wee corruption. Many thanks for all your assistance anyway.

SCF scannow and SFCfix run and there appears to be only one file now that is corrupt, namely mfc80u.dll. Attached is the output from both files. Hope this enough info.

First of all, this problem appears to be having no effect on the running of the computer ... at present. I have run the SFC/scannow followed by the Checksur then lastly SFCfix, which was unable to repair the file problem. I would appreciate any assistance you can give but as I say no...
