Windows Explorer slow and crashing. Not sure if it is the problem or a symptom

A few weeks ago my computer crashed when I tried to save a document, I had a few things running at the same time, can't remember all the details. Since then my computer has been very slow to get going after start up (I have very few apps running on start up). And windows explorer is very slow...
