Thanks Corinne for the advise. I ran Eset twice, first time it found items stored in AdwCleaner quarantaine folder sleeping there for years. I think a recent Bitdefender scan deleted attachments in my old Thunderbird profile mail folders. Malwarebytes I ran too. Eset Log 1 16.12.2018 12:38:49...

Why did you ask about the antivirus software? Could it be, that an antivirus software is blocking the accessability of that microsoft key?

Yes, I had Avast running some years. For this WU failure I uninstalled it some days ago and then I mistakenly installed Avira, confusing the names. Avira found and blocked some stuff. I deleted the program and ran Windows Defender without a result and then I switched to Bitdefender free edition...

Its strange. There is an error message trying to open that key. It says "error opening Microsoft. The key cannot be opened due to an error. Details: access denied" I tried to export it anyway. But the result is another message, saying that the choosen part of the structure is not available and...

There was indeed an unwanted tool activating MS Office 2016 on the system. I bought a legal license for the same office version. I had to repair and reboot. Office is running and updating legally now. But KB4467107, the november version of KB4462923, still refuses to install.

So there is nothing we can do about it? I still suspect the harddrive cloning (with HDClone 6). I had switched to a former backup on a from 650 Giga to 750Giga scaled drive. WU did not work at all. I had to install "Intel Rapid Storage Technology" to make WU looking for updates again. But maybe...
