Anyone with any ideas on how to diagnose issues with not being able to load the COMPONENTS registry hive?

I have an issue on 2012R2 where two updates failed to install as soon as the ‘installing updates’ progress indicator appears after ‘preparing for updates’. Checking the CBS logs shows it fails to load the COMPONENTS registry hive. It says NOT_ENOUGH_MEMORY but there is 32GB RAM there, so I doubt...

Correction - KB4534271 is 2020-01 update, KB4561616 is 2020-07. I have both.

Hi Softwaremaniac, Did you get the log file? Windows is now offering different updates - 2020-07 - should I try and install that or wait for you to have a look at the log? My guess is the issue won't be dealt with by a newer update, so I should wait. Please confirm. Best, Kevin

Hi softwaremaniac, Thanks for the reply. For some reason the CBS.log was overwritten with today's date and a much smaller size, but the previous one retained as CBSPERSIST_20200709093630.log so I fortunately didn't have to dig it out from a backup. Please find the file here...
