Sorry for taking so long to come back it has been the work from hell due to Coronovirus related crap. I do have a bunch of custom rules, thinkg about exporting them and trying to import them to see if the problem comes back post reset. For conveniences sake I got my custom rules in 3 "groups"...

got news: it worked. I was studuying the windows update log and saw that what failed was the download of a specific file "http://download.microsoft.com/v11/2/windowsupdate/redir/v6-win7sp1-wuredir.cab" tried to dl it, it worked fine with my default browser. Then tried to DL it using Interent...

Did that, no difference. Update checking fails without connecting at all. Error 80072EFD as before

yes there are 4 values present. 2 correspond to old VPN settings I'v deleted since 2 years ago when I left my old Job. 2 others are: DefaultConnectionSettings SavedLegacySettings Should I delete Them All? just the 2 VPNs? Again thanks for the help.

No it is on a home network, a small workgroup with 6 computers, the rest connect to Windows Update servers without a problem. Also no Proxy Or VPN. And I can install other ( non-Core-Windows) updates on this very same PC. I installed an update for dot.net (KB4041083) , the usual Security...

Tried Windows Update after this and it failed again, with Error 80072EFD, attaching the latest version of the cbs.log,. Again thanks for the help! Also : for some reason, the forum didnt show me your reply, till I repleid myself, Then it became visible.

SURT didint find any errors, run sfc /scannow cbs.log compressed and attached. Last run is at line 18800 or so (a bit before 21:30 local time)
