I totally agree with you, and it is still unknown as to what other issues may arise as a result of an untested update. HP needs to find a permanent solution.

UPDATE: Woke up this morning all was well, PC woke with no issues. All day sleep and hibernate mode tested many times, no crashes. Left it in sleep mode for several hours, came back and it awoke fine, so Win 8.1 has eliminated the problem. BUT, I still bought a new Dell XPS today, fully loaded...

I prefer Dell as well. No, no other changes. Yes, my system ONLY crashed during sleep or hibernate, what caused the crash is the awakening of the system, at that point it would restart and the Win dmp error files would generate, always the same exact dmp files. Never crashed any other way...

Just tried again 4 times in sleep and hibernate, no crashes. Walked away from it for 20 minutes, it went into sleep and no problems. I may have lost confidence in HP, might have to go get a Dell XPS or Cyberpower, for an extra $230 I can upgrade to an i7 and HDMI ports, none of which is on the...

Yes it was me, lol. UPDATE: As a last minute idea, I decided what the heck and updated to Win 8.1, and guess what, tested 20 times in hibernate and sleep mode and NO ERRORS, NO CRASHES, I think that might have been the fix. Still going to wait till I wake up and let it sit for a few hours...
