[SOLVED] Server 2016 - SFC fails; DISM source not found

Hi Maxstar, after SFCFix, DISM is now successful and SFC found no issues. Thank you!! Is there any write-up that explains why Windows gets to the point where it can't fix itself with its own built-in tools? I'd very much like to know why even introducing an ISO to DISM usually doesn't cut it...

I'm needing help repairing Server 2016. Updates are installing successfully but we're troubleshooting an issue with backup software which brought us to make sure the OS is healthy. DISM is failing with the familiar "source files could not be found". I've exhausted the options I could find to try...

[SOLVED] Another Server 2019 DISM issue - 0x800f081f

In-Place upgrade took care of the XPS/PDF issue; I did have to reinstall .NET 4.8. Looks like we have new QB errors now so may also have to reinstall that. Consider this [re-]solved. Thanks!

I also tried manually adding the XPS driver using the files from a healthy server and got the same error.

Any chance we'd get some new ideas yet today? This is holding up their Quickbooks invoice sending so we may have to resort to an in-place upgrade this weekend. Appreciate the assistance!

These are the instructions I had seen for compacting the unused space in the hive: Compress large registry hives - Windows Server I made the changes to the live SOFTWARE hive, exported As Hive, made a regbak backup, copied the exported one into the backup, and restore only the SOFTWARE hive...

[SOLVED] Server 2019 fails Cumulative Update with 0x800705AA

Thanks for the idea! I found that the SOFTWARE hive is 2097152KB (exactly 2GB) so it's maxed out. I went looking for what was bloating it and found a number of these that were huge: SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Print\Providers\Client Side Rendering Print...

I removed the feature, rebooted, re-added with DISM this time (using other server as source), with print spooler stopped, and it added the feature again. But I still can't add the printer.

No problem! So after DISM was healthy, SFC was able to fix corruption and I was able to re-add the XPS features with the spooler service stopped. However, I still am not able to add the XPS Document Writer. When adding the printer manually it says "Element not found". I totally understand if...

Update: A nearby 2019 server was able to provide the files needed dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth /source:\\friendlyserver\c$\windows\winsxs /limitaccess

Hi again! I'm having trouble reinstalling the XPS Document Writer feature so I've done SFC and DISM with poor results. Attached CBS logs and waiting for ComponentsScanner to complete, it might be stuck. I can post that later. Thanks, Dan

ERROR: Access is denied Edit: Then I gave SYSTEM full permissions to the key and ran it as SYSTEM, and got this: ERROR: Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service.
