Can we keep trying fix 8.1? If it ends up being too difficult then I can help her upgrade to 10 when it's convenient for us. I upgraded my 7 desktop to 10 in January.

1. We have an 8.1 ISO downloaded from Microsoft. I've only got windows 10 and 7 machines. 2. Only if it's free (her words)

Girlfriend is running 8.1. Her HDD crashed a couple years back, and we originally ran sfc/dism multiple times to fix the corruption issues after cloning the drive to a new SSD so she could get back to booting. While that worked, the OS behaved strangely in several ways, but it got slowly fixed...
