Don't think I can find the link again, not easily anyway, some site on a .pl domain, however, I didn't delete the file. I did, however, give up trying to get Win 10 running as the native OS. It's really quite happy running Debian 11, small amount of hunting I even got the Linux driver & setup...

The other thing I'd do is eliminate the variable of Hiren's Boot CD, I'd install Macrium (Free) & build the rescue media... which will (by default) use WinRE from the current install so should have the right drivers etc included. If your machine is UEFI & whatever rescue you're running fix boot...

You can right click the device & search the hardware ID that's shown in properties. Chances are it'll turn out to be the Intel Management Engine Older versions of which there's no Windows 10 driver for, & with a 2nd gen Core processor you're either in or close to that territory. If that's what...

BIOS updated, it has made a difference, in that the lockups have gone away, unfortunately the bugchecks remain. With many thanks for the help, and since I do have other options to run a supported OS, I think it's time to call it on this one. It's not even like this is a mass-market laptop...

Ok found what appears to be (after extracting with 7zip) the correct flash utility & image for v110 on a site/domain in Poland. Given BIOS flashing is one of those potentially bricking operations, the system is unstable, & the utility is designed for XP/7 I think I'm going to install an earlier...

Finding if i have the latest BIOS is proving harder to determine than I thought it'd be. The support site www.gd-itronix.com no longer exists.. playing with the wayback machine shows they passed the support & driver/bios downloads to www.flextronicssupport.com which it appears also no longer...

Assuming one had an ancient NAS - How would you use it?

Any other brand that's probably feasible, flashing different firmware on one of those with updated Linux.. So far as I'm aware really isn't practical.

Not mine, so the answer on the LAN varies, I use the same manufacturer, (Drobo) but their direct attached units, of which I have one recent & one stone-age, but security isn't an issue over USB, just slow transfer with the old one (and single parity RAID with the old one too, not a good idea...
