Well it seems to give back clear results then claims it's found errors. I'd personally prefer to try and fix the issues before transferring everything over to a new HD, i've concerns that the flashing could possibly be a problem with the graphics card (as the flashing is no longer intermittent...

I'll look at getting a replacement. Is there anything i can do about the flashing screen or lack of taskbar though? Otherwise, surely copying over data that is corrupt will only mean i've got a nice HD but with the same issues. If i couldn't resolve them i'd need to replace the laptop.

Did 'System Backup' (was that the option i was supposed to use? I couldn't see an option which was specifically named 'Physical Image Backup'). It's saved it as 'System Backup' and is 97 gig. It's saved it in a format that's saying it's Hasleo though (.DBI), is that right? I've run, CHKDSK /r...

Little bit of an update, i restarted the Laptop a short while ago. Started it up again (still taskbar not appearing and flashing persisting) but the SFC scan did fully run, however it said there were errors that it couldn't fix.

The 6 most recent C++ installations allowed a 'repair' option from within 'Programs & Features', which ran and looks like it re-added reg-key's for all 6, the remaining installations (which date back to 2014 and earlier) only allow an uninstall option and in-fact i think 3 of them instantly...

Just out of interest, i've been searching as to see why i've been getting the 'Microsoft Management Console has stopped working' error and one suggestion is that I've noticed one of the errors i've been having with the AMD software installing seems to be when it gets to the C++ installation...
