I think you are making a pretty big assumption. I guess you're an optimist and I'm a pessimist - at least when it comes to eBay. I truly hope you are right and at the very least, the product has not been maliciously modified.

I already suggested testing the RAM. Yes, a failing component on the motherboard could cause this. But there is no way to troubleshoot motherboards to that level because makers don't publish service guides or schematics for their boards....

I agree with that. But that eBay seller is not selling 2.0. He is selling V3.05. That suggests to me that either it is NOT V3.05, or the seller has modified the code. Neither scenario seems kosher to me and the EULA specifically says in...

That's a last resort option that often does no good - especially with hardware problems as you still have the same hardware and drivers when done. Also, you lose all your other installed programs, you have to restore all your personal data...

The problem with testing a PSU is there really is no way for "normal" users to do it. Proper testing requires the PSU be tested under a variety of loads with an oscilloscope or power supply analyzer, and a qualified technician who can...

I would look in Event Viewer to see if there is an entry in the seconds before it restarts to see if there is any clue as to why it restarted. There may be nothing as Windows may not have any time to create a log entry before the...

James I just visited your site, Windows Talk and clicked Contact. When the page opened Norton blocked an attack from 194.58.101.101, someplace in the Russian Federation. It said a Web Attack: Rig Exploit Kit Website 4, attacking computer qwuriquriu.basmgmt.com.

Basic Information

About James M. Fisher
Biography:
Hi! My name is James M. Fisher, and it was Corrine of Security Garden who brought these forums to my attention. I was getting tired of the Microsoft bashing that goes on in some forums, so I am glad to have signed up here.
Since my background is not in IT, my forte/focus is helping the home user deal with Windows questions and issues. I was originally nominated for the MVP award way back in October 2003 by James Eshelman, of aumha.org fame.
I got heavily involved in forum-based support back in the days of Win98/Win XP; less so with Windows 7/8 due to other things going on in my life at that time. Things have since settled down, so now I am looking to get more involved in Windows communities such as the one here at Sysnative.
Location:
New Brunswick, Canada
Interests:
Windows PCs, Reading, Music, NA Football
Occupation:
XRay/MRI Technologist
