Let's talk about rock climbing! Other than computing, that is about the only thing I actually do! Maybe you should take it up too. It is a great sport!

    Welcome :)

lol. As much as I can! I have been trying to pursuade my parents to allow me to build something like that for *years*. So far they have been extremely reluctant to start drilling large holes in the wall.

But I have tried and tried! I have repeatedly made small computer models to show and test various designs and compromises. My personal favourite is in the stairwell, but it is a huge overhang which comes back over your head. I have spent long hours designing the structure and calculating strenths and strains. I have also been working at getting a larger wall in the garage instead.

But no luck so far! However, I do have a chin-up bar, I climb trees in the garden (we have a bank of ~120 year old trees, which are extremely tall and great for climbing or practicing ropework), and I go to the local climbing centre far too many time a week (amazingly, I live ~30 minutes away from one of the best climbing centres in the UK)

    Maybe one day!

Big Wall climbing is a chance to step outside reality for the briefest of moments. One leaves fear, and all other Earthly concerns behind. It is quite the rush.

Half dome is one hell of a climb. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Half_Dome

    Re: Hello Sysnative Folks

Used to climb trees when i was a teenager, the brnaches always came in handy in breaking my fall before hitting the ground

Any kids reading please do not try i was lucky and knew how to fall but i would not try now.

Climbing centres are a good introduction to rock climbing can learn fundamental and key skills needed for a safe ascent. Also learn, simulate when things go bad.
