Exclamation MSI GT7020C will not boot at all after power port replacement & USB EX-HDD NOT DETECT

MSI's power ports are notorious for cracking and eventually not working. Mine had already been replaced once or twice while still in warranty and my electrician friend replaced it for me just recently....but after he did it, the machine will no longer power on. It shows it gets power because the red light showing that the battery is charging lights up but that is it....no fan, no video, no hdd sound. I did find a flat cable ribbon that needed to be replaced to the power which is not available anymore but discovered that the cable from the touch pad is exactly the same except length so was able to get one of them...tested it with a voltage meter or whatever it is...and it works. BUT, nothing has changed - still no boot, no sound, etc. Suggestions? (I have since purchased another MSI gaming system and was pleasantly pleased to discover that they now place the port on the side rather than the back.)

Another thing with the MSI's though and perhaps this should be a separate thread is that my old MSI and this new MSI does not like external harddrives...it will read thumb drives but not powered or unpowered portable external harddrives or ipod classics. I've searched everything on the internet....it's not detected in disc management or in device manager...it's not hidden. Once in a blue moon after deleting everything in the hidden area of device manager, I can get it recognized and working but the very next time I try to use it, I have to spend hours doing the same thing to get it to recognize. I've tried different cables, different USB's, I've checked drivers, rebooting with it plugged in and without it plugged in...it just doesn't make any sense. And the harddrives are perfectly fine....it's just the MSI systems that don't like them. My older HP has no issue recognizing them or my fiance's ASUS. Suggestions on this would also be appreciated. Thanks in advance!!!!

Old system MSI GT7020C is running Windows 8.1, New System MSI GE726QD is running Windows 10 Home.

Re: MSI GT7020C will not boot at all after power port replacement & USB EX-HDD NOT DE

my electrician friend replaced it for me just recently....but after he did it, the machine will no longer power on.
Then he either did it wrong, or it was not the problem in the first place. If the connector worked before (but maybe needed a little wiggle) and now does not work at all, then it would seem it was done incorrectly, or something else was damaged during the repair.

Does it work with no battery installed?

I've tried different cables, different USB's
What do you mean by different USB's? Do you mean different ports on the notebook. They may be supported by the same hub.

Not sure what to suggest here as it seems you have tried everything already (different cables, different ports, devices on other computers).

I have heard on rare occasions, USB selective suspend feature causing external drives connectivity issues. I recommend disabling this option to see what happens.

From Power Options, to go Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings > USB settings > USB selective suspend setting. Then under both On battery and Plugged in, change that to disabled, save your changes, reboot and see what happens. If still a problem, change those settings back to Enabled.

The thing that confuses me is you say thumb drives work fine. So the ports are working.
