Lenovo N50 wireless mouse not working

Hey i bought a new Lenovo N50 mouse for my old PC but i can't make it work. Currently i'm using old logitech wireless mouse. I tried all USB ports but everytime it says driver install failed and device manager shows nothing. Same problem in clean boot and safe mode. Tried installing Lenovo Mouse Driver for Windows 8 (64-bit) and Windows 7 (32-bit 64-bit) - ThinkCentre and ThinkStation but didn't fix it.

It instantly work on my friends laptop w/o any drivers but then we tried my old logitech mouse and didn't work. So same problem but vice versa on his laptop. I have no idea what can i do more, hope you can help guys i'd be very grateful.

Re: Lenovo N50 wireless mouse not working

Did you follow the "Before Installation" instructions in the "ReadMe" document found in that link above?

Basically, you need to uninstall all your old wireless mouse drivers first, then install the new drivers. I would uninstall, reboot, then install.

Re: Lenovo N50 wireless mouse not working

I did never install any drivers for my old Logitech mouse. So what I did now, i just uninstalled my old mouse from device manager along with USB Receivers, reboot, install Lenovo drivers, reboot (because it was required) and it worked! But the problem is it worked only for 10 seconds, then it started to install something and failed again and my mouse stopped working. And again I had USB Receivers in my device manager. I can't update the driver for them. That's how it looks: http://s2.ifotos.pl/img/2jpg_qparnaw.jpg

Re: Lenovo N50 wireless mouse not working

Not sure what is happening here. I would make sure you don't have any USB receivers installed, then uninstall all those USB Receivers device manager. Then do a "cold" restart. By "cold" I mean to shutdown Windows and unplug your computer from the wall for about 15 - 30 seconds, connect a basic wired mouse, then boot and start over with installing this new mouse.

    Did as you said.

It looks like if i uninstall those USB Receivers and do a reboot then my mouse is working for 10 seconds till windows start installing "Device driver software" and it fails with a message "Device driver software was not successfully installed". Windows is force installing those USB Receivers all over again and then my mouse stops working too. Is there any way i can prevent windows from installing it? Block it somehow or idk. I even did a reboot with all USB unplugged but it always try to install that software USB Receivers.

Re: Lenovo N50 wireless mouse not working

Hey, thanks for reply. Unfortunately it didn't work ;/ And i don't have anything attached i even tried reboot with all USB ports free.
When I start my PC and login to windows my computer is force installing 2x USB Receiver and fails. Then I connect my mouse and it force install another 2x USB Receiver and fails again. I dunno what are those first 2x USB Receivers and my Lenovo mouse is causing another 2x USB Receivers to show up. So i have 4x USB Receivers with yellow exclamation mark in total in my device manager. I was not able to find any drivers for it or anything. Windows is always trying to install them and when it fails, my mouse stops working.

Re: Lenovo N50 wireless mouse not working

This is really odd. Windows should not try to install those drivers unless it is detecting hardware connected.

In Device Manger, under the View tab, select Show Hidden Devices and see if anything there has a error.

You might also try running system file checker. From an elevated command prompt (run as administrator), enter: sfc /scannow and see what happens.

Re: Lenovo N50 wireless mouse not working

No other errors in device manager.
SFC reported some problems but not all could be fixed. Did reboot, nothing change.

But i have some news. Those first 2x USB Receiver were from my old Logitech wireless dongle (the very old one for my logitech but i had to buy a new one and i was using both in the same time i just forgot about the old one and it was causing those USB Receivers).
So my new wireless dongle for Logitech mouse is not causing USB Receiver errors, that's why this mouse works i assume. The old one and the one for Lenovo are. So now i see only 2x USB Receiver instead of 4x if i connect Lenovo's wireless dongle.

Well, now I am confused. Your new mouse is working fine now? After removing the extra dongle, did you start over with the install process?

Re: Lenovo N50 wireless mouse not working

Nope, it's not working. Removing the extra dongle didn't change anything because my Lenovo dongle is causing 2x USB Receiver errors too. I started again but it doesn't really matter what i do because windows keeps trying to install software and fails then my mouse stops working. Here is how it looks:

    1. I uninstall 2x USB Receiver from device manager
    2. Do a reboot
    3. I plug in the dongle, my mouse works
    4. "Installing device driver software" pops out
    5. It changes to "Device driver software was not successfully installed"
    6. My mouse stops working
    7. 2x USB Receiver shows up again in my device manager

And it doesn't matter if i install Lenovo drivers manually before or after i connect my Lenovo dongle. Windows keeps trying to install something anyway.

    1. I uninstall 2x USB Receiver from device manager
    2. Disconnect from the internet
    3. Do a reboot
    4. I plug in the dongle, my mouse works
    5. "Installing device driver software" pops out (Hopefully eliminated?)
    6. It changes to "Device driver software was not successfully installed" (Hopefully eliminated?)
    7. My mouse stops working (Hopefully eliminated?)
    8. 2x USB Receiver shows up again in my device manager (Hopefully eliminated?)
    9. Open Windows Update and see if there are optional updates pertaining to your device.
    10. Hide any updates under Optional Updates for your device.
See above for recommendations. Three steps added, one in bold in between your steps, and two at the end.

I sure wish I had this computer on my bench to play with. If you didn't already state this mouse worked fine on another computer, I would put the blame on the mouse. While it could still be an issue there, it does not seem likely.

I am back to my suggestion above to have one our SFC experts take a look.

When you uninstall the drivers, do you check the box to Delete the driver software for this device?

  19. #19

Re: Lenovo N50 wireless mouse not working

Hmm i don't see any box there. It says "The drivers for this device are not installed (Code 28). So i can only uninstall the device but as you already know it doesn't fix it. Mouse is working on two other computers w/o installing any drivers. Problem is only on my old PC win7 because it detects the dongle as 2x USB Receiver with yellow exclamation mark.
