The reason I'm trying this is because this is an extracted setup unlike the standard.exe file that MS provides which may shed some light on the error and which among other things, gives you access to the drivers included in the package. This does leave me with an even worse opinion of Microsoft than I've always had. That their own download of the latest version of their own software for their own hardware product doesn't work and causes all this grief, and that the extracted setup of the same update works fine is just unimaginable. What a horrible company. Thanks again for all your help.
