Diablo 3 Diary – About that Mandatory Online Connection

Diablo 3 has finally been released all around the world earlier this week and, while it may seem to offer the same dungeon crawling role-playing game experience as its predecessors, it does boast some pretty big changes, chief among which being the mandatory online connection to Blizzard’s Battle.net servers.

While such a feature was also an option back in 2000’s Diablo II, as players needed to be connected to Battle.net if they wanted to experience the RPG with their friends, the new game requires them to stay connected at all times.

Re: A Guide to the Classes in Diablo III

same reason I did not buy it Temmu....

I often take my laptop places without internet... So their telling me I can't play the game I just bought because of no internet? Silly...

Also, all the controls are laggy because they go to the server for authentication...

Weekend Reading: Diablo 3’s Success and Mandatory Online Connections

This week was marked by the release of Diablo 3, Blizzard’s long-awaited dungeon crawling role-playing game, which signals not just a turning point for the long-running franchise , but it might also take the whole PC gaming scene into a new direction.

As most of you know, besides featuring classic Diablo gameplay the new RPG requires a permanent online connection to Blizzard’s Battle.net servers.

let us know your thoughts on:
    - gameplay
    - responsiveness - i.e. does a mouse-click take to long to become action?

    Re: Diablo III

Have you ever played Dungeon Siege?

This game is nearly identical to Dungeon Siege 3 in graphics, characters, attributes...

With that said, I loved Dungeon Siege and find myself rather enjoying this game...

I can notice a slight delay on some things like opening chests but it is very minor and probably not noticeable to normal people...

I bought a SSD because I couldn't wait the extra 0.2 seconds for chrome to load if that gives you an idea of my key to detail.

Overall I think it's a great game and I don't yet regret buying it.
If someone wants to try it out I have a free trial up to the first big boss...

Blizzard Talks About Diablo 3’s Open World, Dungeons, and Monsters

    Diablo 3
has been launched for almost a week now and Blizzard, in between trying to keep its servers as stable as possible, has talked about some of the game’s elements, including the open world and the restricted dungeons, but it also discussed the game’s different monsters.

Diablo 3 was launched last week and, in between errors with its mandatory online connection to Blizzard’s Battle.net servers, it managed to deliver a fun dungeon crawling experience.

Diablo 3 Players Complain of Weak Legendary Items

After going through endless errors and different bugs, Diablo 3 players are now complaining about a new issue with the recently launched role-playing game, as the Legendary items are weaker than regular Magic or Rare ones.

Diablo 3 offers different types of items to players who defeat their enemies throughout the campaign. These consist of weapons, armor, and other such things.

I noticed this too... all the bonuses on weapons are random...

You can have some great legendary items and then some with like +1 +1 +1 which are just plain awful...

Ended up being about an 8 hour campaign... (on normal)

Note, I play games pretty quickly...

Nothing too hard but I did have a boss who could kill me in one hit...

That's what I get for having all DPS and no defense
    Now onto harder settings

Diablo 3 Gamers Petition for Offline Gameplay Patch

There's a petition demanding that Blizzard patch Diablo 3 so that gamers can play offline.

We actually saw this coming long before Diablo 3 arrived and proved that an online requirement to play can have a nasty, negative effect. Fans lashed out at Blizzard when the company first revealed the requirement, and now they're demanding that the studio release a patch allowing for offline play in the single-player campaign.

Diablo III puts PC gaming back on top

The video game market ebbs and flows with the state of our economy. When times are tough, people stop buying video games and related hardware. When the economy picks back up, gaming gear purchases rebound.

So it comes as little surprise that a recent NPD report confirmed that game sales dropped 28% in May 2012 compared to 2011 levels.

    Re: Diablo III

Diablo 3 Was Initially Set to Be an MMORPG, Developer Says

Max Schafer, the co-founder of Runic Games and the former head of Blizzard North, has talked about the first plans for Diablo III and revealed that Blizzard actually wanted it to be an MMORPG, just like World of Warcraft.

The Diablo franchise was developed by Blizzard North many years ago and, after two very successful installments, work began on a third iteration, Diablo 3.

According to Schafer, the initial plan was to make the game an online experience, just like the team at Blizzard’s central headquarters were doing with World of Warcraft.

"When I was working at Blizzard a million years ago we were working on Diablo III and it was an MMO. We were going to do the Diablo version of World of Warcraft,” Schafer told I.Eat.Games.
