    Is AMD 300 series worthwhile?

I currently use the R9 290X and I cannot see any benefit other than DirectX 12 compatibility to upgrade. There is currently only the R9 360, 370, and 380 planned and all of which are less powerful than my current card (specifically they appear to have half the bus width, 256-bit compared to my 512-bit) and a lower core clock speed.

Normally I don't subscribe to the hype of DirectX upgrades because Microsoft prefers to tie it to their newest OS (i.e.: DX10, 11 etc) but since Windows 10 is a free upgrade, it's reasonable to upgrade along with it. Problem is, unless Nvidia develops new iterations of existing models that support DX12, I physically cannot upgrade my hardware without going into CrossFire, which is really not worthwhile.

Any ideas as to if Nvidia or AMD will be producing cards more powerful than the current 980/290X that are DX12 compatible, or if I should give up on being an early-adopter.

Give up on being a early adopter not only do you pay a premium price for the hardware few games will fully support it at release.
