    TheDyl BSOD

    Hey Guys,
    BSOD With the clock interrupt Error Message
    generally happens whilst playing ALT tabbing between a game and a video (most of the time twitch.tv)
    Clock interrupt happens crazy frequently whilst playing CS:GO for some reason
    Help would be appreciated
    I believe I BSOD aswell for other reasons, So I would suggest looking for other potential problems aswell :/

    OS- Windows 7 64BIT, Original installation
    Purchased Windows
    ~2 years old system, same as OS age
    i7 3820

    GTX 560
    Asus P9x79 Motherboard
    Desktop custom made myself
    16 GB DDR 3 RAM if that's relevant


    Running them USB stick thingo's to connect to internet
    Netgear WG111V3 Wireless G USB ADAPTER

    Hi,

    We have many CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT (101) bug checks.

    This indicates that an expected clock interrupt on a secondary processor, in a multi-processor system, was not received within the allocated interval.

    Unfortunately, we'll need a kernel-dump to be able to analyze this bug check as not information is saved at the time of the crash within a minidump.

    Creating a Kernel-Mode Dump File (Windows Debuggers)

    After a kernel-dump is generated, you'll have to upload it to a 3rd party host such as Mediafire, Onedrive, Google Drive, etc. Whatever works best for you.

    Did you just enable it, or was it already? If it was already set to generate kernel-dumps, navigate to C:\Windows and it'll be located there and named MEMORY.DMP. Then, you'll have to upload it to a 3rd party host such as Mediafire, Onedrive, Google Drive, etc. Whatever works best for you.

    If you just set it to generate a kernel-dump, you'll need to wait for the system to crash and then navigate to C:\Windows to locate it.

    It was 'Enabled' Yet when I went to C:\Windows, there was no dump file
    even though in the 'Enable Kernel' settings says the file should be located there
    (would it maybe be in 'minidumps' folder located similarily in windows?)

    No, the minidumps folder is strictly for Small Memory Dumps (i.e the ones you currently have attached to your original post).

    Is your file path for kernels set to > %SystemRoot%\MEMORY.DMP? If so, let's just wait for another crash with all of the proper kernel-dump settings in place, and then check C:\Windows for it.

    So my computer finally crashed, same bsod, says crash dump 100% OK coool
    Log back into comp, the MEMORY.DMP ISNT THERE...

    I sorted it out, Running a SSD as my C Drive meant that I had <25 GB of free space left on it, due to this, crash dumps aren't saved despite you having settings to save one,
    you can change this through the registry :)
    So now i have a memory dump

    it's gunna take a while to upload the decently sized file to googledrive so bear with me...

    Right, so as we saw earlier, the attached DMP file is of the CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT (101) bugcheck.

    For reference, I did not do !prcb 0 through 4. That would have been very tedious. Instead, you can run the !running -it command. The "i" argument causes it to display idle procs too, and "t" displays the stack trace for the thread running on each proc. Running that specific command shows you're on an 8 core box.

    Hint: At times, the 4th parameter of the bug check will show you the responsible processor. For example, in your *101 here, it was correct as the 4th parameter was 4.

    Hint #2: You can also generally tell the amount of cores on the box by checking the bugcheck_string - BUGCHECK_STR: CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT_8_PROC

    As this matches the 3rd parameter of the bugcheck, processor #4 is the responsible processor. Now with the information we have here thus far, we know that processor #4 reached 19 clock ticks without responding, therefore the system crashed. Before we go further, what is a clock tick? A clock interrupt is a form of interrupt which involves counting the the cycles of the processor core, which is running a clock on the processors to keep them all in sync. A clock interrupt is handed out to all processors and then they must report in, and when one doesn't report in, you then crash.

    Dissassembling the first few instructions reveals a jump (jmp) that is back up in the nt!KxFlushEntireTb function. It appears at the time of the bug check, the thread was executing a pause (a CPU delay), and doing this in a loop waiting for a release.

    So, what's the summary so far? Processor #0 was the thread that created the bugcheck itself, and must have been interrupted by a clock interrupt in order to trigger the CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT bugcheck.

    Cannot seem to go too far into processor #7, but it seemed to be doing virtual memory related things.




    This looks like a harware issue, either related to your video card, RAM, or CPU itself. I'd like to say it's also possible for it to be a video driver causing corruption, we shall see.

    1. Ensure you have the latest video card drivers. If you are already on the latest video card drivers, uninstall and install a version or a few versions behind the latest to ensure it's not a latest driver only issue. If you have already experimented with the latest video card driver and many previous versions, please give the beta driver for your card a try.

    2. In your loaded drivers list, dtsoftbus01.sys is listed which is the Daemon Tools driver. Daemon Tools is a very popular cause of BSOD's in 7/8 based systems. Please uninstall Daemon Tools. Alternative imaging programs are: MagicISO, Power ISO, etc.

    3. If the above three fail, you'll want to uninstall the video card drivers, shut down, and then physically remove the video card. At this point, you'd then either (if you have it) use integrated graphics from your motherboard, or use a temporary secondary video card, install the drivers, and monitor the system's behavior. If you still crash using integrated graphics and/or a secondary GPU + different drivers (obviously for the integrated or secondary GPU), then it's not a video card issue.

    4. Run Memtest for NO LESS than ~8 passes (several hours):

    Which should I download?

    You can either download the pre-compiled ISO that you would burn to a CD and then boot from the CD, or you can download the auto-installer for the USB key. What this will do is format your USB drive, make it a bootable device, and then install the necessary files. Both do the same job, it's just up to you which you choose, or which you have available (whether it's CD or USB).

    How Memtest works:

    Memtest86 writes a series of test patterns to most memory addresses, reads back the data written, and compares it for errors.

    The default pass does 9 different tests, varying in access patterns and test data. A tenth test, bit fade, is selectable from the menu. It writes all memory with zeroes, then sleeps for 90 minutes before checking to see if bits have changed (perhaps because of refresh problems). This is repeated with all ones for a total time of 3 hours per pass.

    Many chipsets can report RAM speeds and timings via SPD (Serial Presence Detect) or EPP (Enhanced Performance Profiles), and some even support changing the expected memory speed. If the expected memory speed is overclocked, Memtest86 can test that memory performance is error-free with these faster settings.

    Some hardware is able to report the "PAT status" (PAT: enabled or PAT: disabled). This is a reference to Intel Performance acceleration technology; there may be BIOS settings which affect this aspect of memory timing.

    This information, if available to the program, can be displayed via a menu option.

    5. If your memory returns with no errors, ensure your BIOS is up to date.

    6. Clear your CMOS (or load optimized BIOS defaults) to ensure there's no improper BIOS setting - How To Clear CMOS (Reset BIOS)

    7. If all of the above fail, the only left to do is replace your processor as it is faulty.

    The kernel you've attached is a *101 bug check as we've seen above, did you upload the correct one? If so, it may not have generated a dump regarding the *9F you may have seen.

    In the meantime, I'd go ahead and work through the list of recommendations I've given.
