    How do I see RAM overclocking in Mini dump????

    In this article: http://www.carrona.org/howidoit.html John says "- I also check to see if there's older BIOS and overclocking (if the memory dump provides that info)"

    Is this in a Mini dump? And how do I determine if over clocking is being used??

    I'm pretty sure John's referring to CPU overclocking there. I don't think there's a way to check for RAM overclocking, again, that would depend on the information available from the dump type (unlikely in minidumps).

    Fire up a minidump in Windbg and use !analyze -v;r;kv;lmtn;lmtsmn;.bugcheck;!peb;!sysinfo cpuinfo;!sysinfo machineid; !sysinfo cpuspeed; !sysinfo smbios scroll down past the driver listings and you'll hit on the hardware details. Here's one I have loaded from earlier:

    as it depends on the Motherboard/CPU combo, some, like this example, have a turbo feature built in. You also need to check the CPU codes to make sure it's not an unlocked CPU with 'hidden' cores unlocked, etc.

    The RAM info might tell you more too:

    I do see a "Speed" value for each RAM stick, showing 1333mhz in that example. Is this relevant information to RAM overclocking?

    Yes, the 1333MHz is about mid-range in modern DDR3 RAM, if it's quality memory on a good motherboard, with decent cooling and the correct voltage tweaks are used, 1333 memory can be pushed to the next step, 1666MHz.

    In this instance, the RAM part number suggests that 1333 is stock speed: CMX8GX3M2A1333C9

    I suppose the next question is: Does the dump process collect the actual or the rated speed?

    @ E-Peen, do you think you could find a Windbg example from a dump over on OCN where the RAM was known to be overclocked to compare?

    We have to figure out if we are seeing the JDEC spec speed or the actual speed, most DDR3 sticks are going to have a JDEC rating of 1333 since it's the fastest spec speed for DDR3, the higher speeds are XMP(Intel eXtended Memory Profiles) or BEMP(AMD Black Edition Memory Profile) some are both.
