    Seemingly random freezes

    Greetings gentlemen!
For about two weeks time now, my computer has been having sporadic freezes. The usual freeze goes something like this:
I'm using my computer as normal (writing code/watching a stream/playing a game), and something stops responding (most of the time firefox crashes or I lose my internet connection). At this point it still looks like a normal unresponsive program or slight hickup, as my mouse still moves and animations on the screen are still going. When I try to switch to a different window (e.g. open skype or steam) I can still use that normally for about ~10 seconds, before my entire system freezes. If I never switch to a different program my mouse stays responsive and the computer stays in this state for a very long time (I've waited for over an hour with nothing happening, but if I leave my pc on overnight with a stream or something else on, I wake up to find it in the EFI shell, from which I can then just exit and boot my pc normally).

I don't get any BSOD, my event viewer is practically empty (besides what should be in there), and windows doesn't create a dump in /windows/minidump. I've ran extensive memory tests, booted with memtest and tried the RAM in different slots on the motherboard. I'm currently using just one of the RAM benches, but the crashes still occur. I've ran driver verifier for two days, and even though 3 crashes occurred during that time, it hasn't given me any errors/bsod's.

    OS - Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7, Vista ? Windows 10
    x86 (32-bit) or x64 ? 64 bit
What was original installed OS on system? Windows 7, but I have since purchased an SSD and installed windows 10 on that (with the original windows 7 key).
Is the OS an OEM version (came pre-installed on system) or full retail version (YOU purchased it from retailer)? The windows 7 was OEM, I'm not sure what that means for my windows 10.
Age of system (hardware) Varies greatly, I built the system 5 years ago, but the motherboard I replaced recently (2 months ago) and the SSD is a little over 2 years old now.
Age of OS installation - have you re-installed the OS? Yes, a completely clean install several days ago, but the problem persisted.

    CPU - AMD X4 II965 AM3 3400 BLACK, 3.4 ghz
Video Card - EVGA GTX560 SC, although I have an msi RX470 on its way as we speak
    MotherBoard - MSI 970A-G43
    Power Supply - Corsair CMPSU-600G, 600w

One thing I've noticed about my system is the CPU getting way too high temperatures (52 idle to almost 70 under full load). I want to switch away from the stock cooler and buy a new one, but it's been at these temperatures for a while now. If that is truely the culprit then I'm afraid I might have to get a new CPU alltogether. I've kept an eye out for the temperature, but it doesn't seem to be related to the freezes in any ways (it's crashed at 58 degrees and I've been able to run several hours on ~70 degrees as well).
The crashes really don't appear to have a reason, and as such I'm suspecting hardware failure. I'm not new to computers, but I just can't seem to figure this one out. If anyone is able to help me, that'd be greatly appreciated!

Edit: Forgot to mention, I updated all the drivers(before the complete reinstall, I might be missing a few now), and my BIOS is up to date with the latest version. I have scanned the system with malwarebytes, spyware cleaners and just general virus scans, in addition to running CCleaner.
