Hi Kara. . .
Yes, please follow Stephen's request about the BSOD Posting Instructions. As Stephen said, the info the app generates/collects may in fact be very useful to us in helping you solve the wifi Internet disconnect problem.
One other item that I noticed in the output you pasted into your previous post was that the router signal was measured at 90%. Usually I see it at 99% or 100%.
A few questions, please:
- How far away from the router is your laptop?
- What is between the router and laptop, e.g., walls, furniture, other, etc...
- Is the router above the laptop, i.e., is the router on a different floor or on top of a cabinet?
A little story. . .
My mom's router is > 100 feet from her laptop. She has never had a problem with Internet connectivity until recently when she mentioned to me that her Internet connection would sometimes disconnect. The Internet provider (cable company) came out and declared all was fine after replacing the router. However, that same night, the Internet connection dropped again several times.
I brought her laptop into the living room where the router was located and experienced -0- dropped Internet connections over an 8 hour period. All of this was very perplexing because nothing had changed - location-wise, anyway. The router was in the living room where it has been for years; the laptop in the study.
A quick & basic diagram of my mom's house -
As you can see from the diagram (sorry for the crude drawing - I'm not very good at drawing!), the signal has to either travel through the many walls or perhaps it goes down the hallway; not sure.
I used the app that you ran to measure the signal strength. It is typically around 90% - just like yours. You may think 90% is "high enough", but turns out -- not always.
In my mom's case, the answer turned out to be the cabinet that the router sat on. The old cabinet was ~6' high and the router sat on top of it, so the wifi signal went out and down. The new cabinet was just 3-4' high and was just low enough coupled with the distance between her laptop + router to result in the dropped Internet connections. Her wifi signal strength these days is usually >95%. (Please note: I am not saying or even implying that you need 90% signal strength to have trouble-free, constant uninterrupted wifi Internet. There is no magic number).
Once the router was placed on top of a higher cabinet in the living room, all was fine and mom has enjoyed 100% Internet connectivity since.
Given that your Ethernet is fine (no Internet connectivity drops) and that your wifi signal strength was captured at 90% the moment the app ran (it likely may be variable and if you were to run the app over & over, we may see a variable signal strength), I think this will turn out to be a signal strength case or driver related.
Lastly -apologies, but I'm not following you about my post reply missing. Can you please explain a little more about this? Thanks.
Regards. . .
John
