In fact, I can't even get the gmail acct. to activate on the 8.1 PC. I keep getting setup errors when doing the initial "Properties" screens.

There is no need to transfer anything over. When I began using a new W8.1 system, I set up my email accounts and Microsoft did the rest. Within a few hours, all email accounts and contacts were fully updated.

The e-mail files are located on a DELL tower, running XP & LIVE MAIL 2009. My quest is to transfer all the associated files (Contacts & archived e-mails & subfolders) to the new GATEWAY tower running WINDOWS 8.1 with LIVE MAIL 2012 installed. Additionally, I have been unsuccessful in creating an e-mail account on the 8.1 PC. When I attempt to create an account, through the PROPERTIES menu selection, I get errors. I use gmail under KNOLOGY (now called WOW!) as the ISP. So, I don't see how MICROSOFT can automate this operation.
