help with Win 10 laptop slowing to snails pace, etc

I'll start by saying i had an extremely slow startup today. I pulled up the browser, the Task Manager, and Settings/Windows Update.

Windows update did not, at that time, show the Qualcom Driver waiting to be downloaded, but instead it checked for updates, which may have
contributed to the long startup.

Anyway, after I got freed up a bit, I ran the troubleshooter and restarted. This time, when i pulled up Windows Update, it shows the pending Qualcom download again it doesn't respond when clicking the download button, nor does it provide a button for "Check for Updates".

Of note: I downloaded the Qualcom drivers from Dell.....weeks ago. And also, I have my Advanced System Settings/Hardware/Installation Settings set to NOT automatically download the mfg's custom apps and icons..... so Windows Update shouldn't be downloading drivers automatically, either.

So then I ran the troubleshooter a couple of more tims, as per your instructions, and there is no change

Hi, Delusion.

I have a couple of things for you to try, but since you are here at Sysnative where there is a group of experts in updates, I would prefer to let an Update expert to check your issue. I'll report the topic to the team. As soon I hear from them, I'll let you know.

Windows Update does not automatically download drivers. It offers to be installed as an option.

Delusion,

Just letting you know that we are discussing your issue. However, most of the experts are a slight busy this period of time.

I'll suggest to you to uninstall the Qualcomm update and try to install it again from the Windows Update.

To do this:

Select the Start button, then select Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > View update history > Uninstall updates.

Right click the Qualcomm update, and then select Uninstall.

Restart the computer, and check for updates.

If the Qualcomm update is offered, download and install it.

Let me know what happened/happens.

Hey Guys,

Apologies for the Disappearing Act. I had charger port issues and borrowed a laptop for a short time, but was then hospitalized for over a week only to return home and that my adult child had apprehended my borrowed device in my absence. I was forced to repair my charging port, and also ran Diagnostics on the Hard Disk while I was there, both the Short (PASSED) and the Long (Failed 3 hours in) Tests......

Sooooo, While it was apart, I swapped out the HDD for a Western digital, and swapped the RAM for 2x 4gb....

NEW PROBLEM:

The new HDD has Windows 11 installed. And I did NOT install a new Processor which is what was holding me back to Windows 10 previously. I absolutely LOVE Windows 11, but my system is a bit confused at the moment LOL

Windows Update wanted to install both AMD and Intel processor drivers and Chipsets, etc.

Ive uninstalled the AMD software and I can Select what I want to allow Windows Update to install..... but I figure I need some EXPERT Advice here before I approve anything windows update is suggesting.

I'm afraid you're going to tell me to do a fresh install of windows 10 and not keep the windows 11.....but I can't remember why.......????

HELP!

Just select the "Regular Monthly Update" which will give you the Cumulative Update, Malicious Software Tool and .net Framework. I'm assuming the Windows 11 is the latest version. After that you can ask us or make a decision on the other offerings including Drivers. If all good then even though you don't meet the requirements, the system is usable. Even then I would get a CPU that's compitable with your MOBO.
