What is your SSID or Wireless Network Name?

Service Set Identifier or SSID is often called as wireless network name. Do you have a funny or clever name for your wireless network? By default SSID’s default name is your Router’s name (e.g. Netgear, Dlink, Linksys) which often use in Wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN). It is recommended to change the default SSID when you first setup your wireless network for security purpose and a bit of personalization. Does your SSID have a special meaning to you? Would you like to create a wireless network name to send a message to your neighbor?

Some funny and clever SSIDs: TurnDownYourMusic, ImAnFBI, Care4Me, PeaceNeighbor, DoNotUseMyWifi, etc….

Please share your own SSID. Some routers support multiple SSIDs, feel free to share them here. Other Posters may benefit from it if they need help on naming their wireless network.

    Before you post:
We will appreciate if you do not post anything offensive, rude or inappropriate SSID name as your post will be edited or removed.
    Thank you.

Re: What is your SSID or Wireless Network Name?

I remember when I was little, we had "The Welcome Wagon" - move to a new house & the neighbors came to meet you.

Around here, we have "The UN-Welcome Wagon"

Nosy neighbors who need/ want to know everything going on; some have installed cameras to "spy on each other". SSIDs are a big topic. It is nuts.

So, to accomodate them. . . my SSID for the weekend -

Mine's still PasswordStealer and it's open.

Had to kick someone earlier today, presumably a neighbour; if you're that person and read this thread: "If you can afford to buy a Sony Vaio, you can afford your own bloody ADSL!".

Wireless mac address filtering may help there or IDS to simply drop the connection.

Mine is Bot-Net and Desolate all secure as can be with enrcyption and other countermeausres.

I wasn't as clever as the rest of you and used the name of the street where we live.

(Daughter wasn't very happy with me when she visited and was setting up a new laptop. I allowed her to connect to the network and she didn't care for the mixed upper/lower case with various symbols, 30-character password.)

I can agree with this! Mine is just the name of our house...

The rest of you all have such clever names! lol.

Never told mine...it's called 'mcgheez', pass-phrase is very silly.

Most of my neighbors Wi-Fi names used to be their router's names and now they changed them, some are their family's last names which is not a good idea at all to use as SSID.

Re: What is your SSID or Wireless Network Name?

Believe me, if you all had neighbors like mine, you too would get very creative with SSIDs.

It's just one of those rather insignificant items that drives them nuts, keeping them occupied long enough so the kids can enjoy themselves instead of having police show up every time a nerf football hits the bumper of a car (no joke)!

Bell791, very original isn't it? It's the default, because I'm sure if I changed it my mother would flip tables.

Re: What is your SSID or Wireless Network Name?

My current SSID is SBHome... Not very imaginative, but it does set my network apart from the others on my street.

My old neighbor had Verizon aDSL and changed his SSID but kept the default password... It was as simple as opening the telephone book to access his home network. Luckily I am a nice guy and explalined why he should change it and he did... To his childrens first names...

Yeah, actually saw that in my tray available networks a while ago.Thinking it was Police as it's been there occasionally but very intermittent. That's what gave me the idea.

    A seemingly appropriate SSID here:

    niemiro says thanks for this.
