I had closed the command prompt and had to run thcheck again. Sorry for the delay. That tool is clever. I had no idea it was there let alone how to use it!!

As I said I have no idea of how to send a screenshot but sfc /scannow reported that it found no integrity violations.

On my last attempt to use you command I succeeded in getting it to tell me it was installed on 3/2/2016. I would send a screen shot if I knew how.

With my very low ability in computers I tried to use the command prompt to search for the update but failed. So I downloaded it from your link and attempted an install and it then told me it was already installed. No further progress with this problem I'm sorry to say. Thanks for trying.

Have you tried a manual update using MSE or did MSE automatically update as it should?

Hello plodr, Simply by looking at the Update History in Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Windows Update\View update history will show what has been installed and when a manual update is carried out the difference between the versions gives a good indication.

Yes I update manually normally but have noticed (now you mention it) that some updates that would have been automatic have been missed. I can only presume that the automatic update function is being impaired as well. I shall leave updates for a while and see if any more are missed to make sure...

Thanks for your reply. I use Acronis True Image and have a backup but it was done on the 10 July and may postdate the problem.

[SOLVED] PUM.Optional.NoDrives

Hello Corrine, I think the BSOD problem is resolved. I found the backup battery was low causing the date etc. to be lost and I replaced it, reset the BIOS to Default (what it was before I have no idea) and all appears well. Books are great. :)

Hello Corrine, I installed Cybereason RansomFree to make myself a little safer and it bit me!! Ouch!! I have run Malwarebytes (after starting the task without restoring the PUM from this mornings scan!!) and now I have it listed as an Excluded item and all appears well as I get no hit on it...
